QA Task 2008

Glen’s Wheels

This is a design and software development task.

Duration: 5 hours (approx.)

Glen’s Wheels is a bicycle hire company in Hobart. The customers are usually families or groups visiting the area as part of their holiday and they are allowed to hire bikes for a minimum of one day and a maximum of two weeks.

Although Glen’s Wheels is very successful, it has never had a corporate image. The following are identified as important to Glen’s Wheels, and your task is to complete them.

Note: The contact details for Glen’s Wheels are

·  Argyle St, Hobart, Tasmania 7000

·  telephone: 03 6234 5678

·  fax: 03 6234 5670

·  email:

·  web: www.glenswheels.com.au

(a) Glen, who owns the company, would like a logo to be produced but he does not want the name of the company or its initials to appear anywhere in the logo. He has found a picture of a wheel that he would like to use as the logo but it is not very clear. The picture is called “wheel.gif”.

(i) Sharpen the image of the wheel.

(ii) Currently the logo has yellow and red areas that are unnecessary.

Remove these areas so that when the logo is imported into a web page, or another document, only the wheel and a small white border will be seen with no extra blank space.

(iii) The white space between the spokes and around the edges of the wheel needs to be made transparent.

o  trailers

·  Prices

o  mountain bikes $20 per day

o  racing bikes $24 per day

o  tandem bikes $40 per day

o  trailers $12 per day

·  Routes

o  this should show 4 different cycling routes available in the Hobart area including an option to download maps

o  this should have details of activity weekends for the next 12 months.

Each page must have a link that returns to the home page.

There must be a page or dialogue box that provides help on how to use the website.

Files for each page must be stored in a separate folder for that page, except the home page.

(b) (i) Using a diagram, design the overall structure of the website, showing how all the screens will link together.
