Advice for Student

If you are sponsored by SOAS for your Tier-4 Visa you will NOT be able to transfer to Part Time study. Overseas students who are experiencing problems with the studies should discuss their options with the International Student and Welfare Advisor.

1. Before you complete your application, you should discuss your situation with a member of staff in your home department (i.e. personal tutor, programme convenor or senior tutor).

2. You should also discuss your situation with the Student Advice and Wellbeing team () to make sure you are clear about any issues to do with funding/support/visas.

3. If you are a Home/EU student and funded by Student Finance/SAAS, extending your studies by more than a year may have implications for your funding as they may not fund your tuition fees for an additional year. You may also wish to discuss your funding situation with the International Student and Welfare Advisor ().

4. Please note that only one period of part-time study can be approved at a time. The approval will be for the next two years of study. If at the end of that period, you still feel unable to return to full-time study you must make a new application for part-time study.

5. It will be the norm that you will take two full course units (or their equivalent half courses) in each of the two part-time years of study (i.e. 60 credits in each year). However, other arrangements may be made in exceptional circumstances. You should note that not all courses will be available in the second year of part-time studies, so your course choices will have to be re-confirmed at that time.
