Dear Ms. Burne:

There is no question that the Arts, both visual and performing, enhance the quality of life in our communities. The Abington Community Library has long been in the forefront in offering music, art, and literature and recognized by the Pennsylvania Humanities Council for its endeavors. We have now completed almost a full year of musical and visual offerings with the now greatly anticipated 2nd Saturdays @ the Library. With approximately 30-75 attendees at each performance, comments included: "We love coming to hear the music and this is really GOOD music!" "Free coffee is a nice touch..." "This is wonderful; I returned my books, signed out new ones and decided to hang out and listen to the band.""The trio was mesmerizing; when they played the Wedding March by Brahms, my heart spontaneously opened and I started to cry. Live music is so healing." “We stopped by to see the artwork, and stayed for the music!” “This is great! I’m getting a card and will be a regular patron.”

2nd Saturdays @ the Library provided a way to experience free, live music at performances suitable for people of all ages on the second Saturday of the month, from 1-3PM. We began the series in September 2010 and will conclude with an exciting and successful first year in August. 2nd Saturdays created opportunities for artists representing different music and performance genres and brought new patrons into the library. At its core the program fostered the love of the humanities: music, art, and literature in one location. Musicians this year included Tony Costa, Doug Smith and the Dixieland All-Stars, Fritz Valenches Stroud Trio, and Marko Marcinko among others.

Along with musical performances, we worked to obtain displays of art on a rotating basis as well. In the coming year, 2nd Saturdays will be ‘kicked up a notch’ by partnering with art galleries that will provide the art on a rotating basis. Galleries, including AFA, Artworks, and Laura Craig, will benefit from additional exposure while giving fine artists a chance to showcase their work in a new venue.

We’d love to have your support as a sponsor as we need organizations like yours to make this possible. We’ll identify you as a Proud Sponsor of Second Saturdays @ the Library with a certificate for you to display and include you in our program book handed out at each performance.

One of my staff will call in a few days to follow up and/or answer any questions. Many thanks for your valuable time and consideration, and above all your generosity.

Sincerely,

Leah Ducato Rudolph, Library Director
