Position Summary / The position is responsible for the efficient organization, coordination and competent operational management of the Therapy/Day Program, including:
·  The Therapy/Day Program Clinical Continuum of Care (referral response, assessment, care planning, care implementation, care review and separation processes);
·  Provision of evidence based group therapy based program and some individual sessions when required;
·  Leadership and performance management of the designated multidisciplinary team;
·  Service compliance with all relevant legislation and policies;
·  Effective communication with referrers, patients, carers, treating psychiatrists, inter-facing programs and staff;
·  Resources allocated to the Therapy/Day Program,
·  Maintain commitment to on-going learning and professional development
Qualifications - Mandatory / ·  Appropriate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Nursing;
·  Eligibility for membership of the above professional Australian Associations
Qualifications - Desirable / ·  Appropriate post-graduate tertiary qualifications in Social Work, Clinical Psychology, Occupational Therapy and Nursing;
·  Current Australian Driver’s License
Personal Competencies Required / ·  Demonstrated commitment to consumer-focused care and evidence based clinical practice
·  Ability to conduct program evaluation, quality improvement activities, and research in the mental health field.
·  Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development.
·  Knowledge of the Mental Health Act 1986 and amendments and other relevant legislation
·  Development, facilitation, evaluation and maintenance of clinical programs
·  Well developed interpersonal, communication and problem solving skills;
·  Strong sense of customer service;
·  Proven ability to work well within a team, providing coaching and mentoring
·  Well-developed written, verbal and electronic skills
Job Competencies Required / ·  To provide leadership to the multidisciplinary team of mental health professionals to ensure organisational goals are understood and followed;
·  To ensure a customer focused ethos is maintained in relation to patients, psychiatrists and families;
·  To provide a day-to-day coordinating function for patients referred to the program;
·  To ensure program is covered during staff sick and or annual leave;
·  To liase with referring consultants, multidisciplinary team and community agencies regarding the management of referred clients;
·  To promote programs’ future growth and development;
·  To facilitate a variety of therapy treatment groups to the clients with psychiatric disorders;
·  To participate in the development, implementation, evaluation and maintenance of clinical service delivery policy, programs, procedures and systems;
·  To contribute to educational programs on relevant mental health issues for clients, families and professional staff;
·  To engage in professional development activities in order to keep up to date with advances in the field;
·  Actively participate in quality improvement activities within the clinic and on a multidisciplinary basis. Such activities should meet the requirements of the ACHS Evaluation and Quality Improvement Program;
·  Actively participate in matters and activities relating to occupational health and safety including compliance with relevant legislation, regulations and codes of practice;
·  Attendance at all compulsory education and training sessions
·  Maintain safe work environment and practice

Performance Criteria 1 / ·  Provide therapy services in accordance with legislation and common law governing mental health clinical practice
·  Work within own scope of practice
·  Maintain current knowledge, incorporate relevant professional standards into practice and adhere to Healthscope and NP policies and procedures;
·  Respect the rights of individuals, their beliefs, cultural values and dignity;
·  Question and/or clarify interventions that appear inappropriate with relevant members of the health care team

Critical Thinking and Analysis

Performance Criteria 2 / ·  Provide a range of specialist clinical services
·  Participate in research
·  Provide professional development and secondary consultation to other staff as needed
·  Participate in case reviews and clinical audits
·  Demonstrate competence of cost containment by utilizing resources efficiently
·  Act as an advocate to assist individuals to make informed decisions
·  Ensure patient confidentiality and privacy is maintained.
·  Participate in monitoring patient outcomes.
Key Responsibility 3 /

Provision and Coordination of Therapy Services

Performance Criteria 3 / ·  Undertake regular clinical supervision with the NP Chief Discipline Specific Therapist
·  Active participation in and facilitation of relevant Marketing, In-service, Education and Quality Improvement activities.
·  Comply with all applicable legislation and NP policies.
·  Engage in professional development activities in order to keep up to date with advances in the field.
·  Provide timely specialist occupational therapy assessments.

Communication /Team work / Documentation

Performance Criteria 4 / ·  Promote effective teamwork
·  Act as a resource for less experienced staff
·  Maintain and promote good interpersonal, public relations and customer service practices;
·  Attend and participate in Unit meetings, working parties and committees
·  Take ownership and identify solutions to address the needs of the individual/patient
·  Work efficiently, ensuring time management skills are effective in delivering services in a timely fashion

Quality / Risk Management

Key Responsibility 5 / ·  Support the hospital/facility’s commitment to quality improvement and achievement of accreditation:
·  Participate in department meetings, committees, and audits.
·  Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the unit/ward quality plan
·  Identify areas of improvement, discuss with peers and seek avenues to address
·  Take ownership of a quality project
·  Assist in the documentation and review of relevant policies, procedures and the unit/ward manual
·  Discuss opportunities for service expansion/improvement with the Therapy Program Director
Key Responsibility 6 /

Occupational Health and Safety

Performance Criteria 6 / ·  Implement measures to maintain the safety of staff, visitors and self:
·  Comply with organization OHS policy, infection control standards, and policy and procedures
·  Ensure a safe working environment and safe systems of work
·  Use material safety data sheets for the safe management of all solutions/chemicals located within department
·  Attend mandatory training (i.e. manual handling)
·  Assist where required with education/training and supervision to ensure staff are safe from injury and risks to health
·  Identify, investigate and report in Riskman all hazards and incidents immediately
·  Assist where required in workplace inspections including identifications and actions for improvements
·  Report any injuries, hazards to the Therapy Program Director/Occupational Health and Safety representatives immediately
·  Participate in waste management programs for the reduction and recycling of rubbish in order to support environmental sustainability
·  Report and complete maintenance referrals as identified
Appraisal / Appraisal performed at 3 months from commencement of position and then annually; or when there is a change of position or any time there is a need to review performance
