Ptychion (B.Sc. equivalent): Studied and qualified as a Medical Radiologic Technologist (1986 -- 1990) at the Technological Educational Institution in Athens (T.E.I Athens), School of Health and Welfare Professions, Department of Medical Radiologic Technologists. Graduated in 1990 with Ptychion Grade "Excellent'' (9,05 out of 10).

Ptychion Thesis: "Quality Assurance of the Radiographic Image'' awarded the grade "Excellent'' (10 out of 10).

DPhil (PhD): Studied and Qualified for the degree of Doctor of Philosophy (DPhil) -- (1990-1994) at the University of Sussex, School of Engineering, Graduate Division of Biomedical Engineering.

DPhil Thesis: "A Study of Respiratory Motion Artifacts in Magnetic Resonance Imaging and Spectroscopy".

Graduated during the Summer 1997 Sussex University Graduation Ceremony.

Education - Scholarships

IKY Scholarship:

Awarded a scholarship by the National Scholarship Foundation (I.K.Y), covering all the semesters of his undergraduate studies.

EU COMETT Grant:

Awarded a EU Mobility Grant (EEC Project COMETT) for his final practical work during his undergraduate studies. He followed practical training at the University Hospital of Antwerp for six months (from 02/04/90 to 28/9/90). During that period he worked on a Research Project concerning Quality Control (Subject: Reject Analysis - A pilot programme for image quality management.). The results of this project are published at the European Journal of Radiology. This programme is now part of the Quality Control Scheme, routinely applied in the above-mentioned Department.

Onassis Foundation Research Grant:

Awarded a Research Grant by the "Alexander S. Onassis'' Public Benefit Foundation, for the completion of his DPhil studies between 1991 to 1994.

April 2003 – today:

Senior Lecturer (Distributed & Complex Adaptive Systems) in the Department of Electronic, Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His duties involve teaching, research and related academic administration for the Communications & Interactive Systems Research Centre (50%) and Biomedical Engineering Research Centre (50%). Member of the Distributed Systems and Human Interface Technology Research Groups.

April 1998 – April 2002:

Lecturer in the Department Electronic, Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Birmingham. His duties involve teaching, research and related academic administration for the Communications and Interactive Systems Research Centre.

Research Fellow at the University of Sussex:

·  During this period he had a fixed term, half time appointment as a Fellow and Laboratory Manager in the Trafford Centre for Medical Research from 16th January 1995 to 30th of September 1995. His duties at this post involved:

o  Research work in Medical Imaging and related subjects, funded by the Dunhill Medical Trust (Project Director: Dr. L. G. Ripley, Graduate Division of Biomedical Engineering, School of Engineering)

o  Management of the Biomedical Engineering Laboratory. This laboratory belongs to the Graduate Division of Biomedical Engineering, which is part of the Trafford Centre.

o  Supervision for several research projects of the Division that run in collaboration with local Hospitals and Health Authorities.

o  Organization of the Biomedical Engineering Seminars and administration of the WWW Page for the Division.

·  During the same period he had a fixed term, half time appointment as a Research Fellow in the School of Cognitive and Computing Sciences from 16th January 1995 to 30th of September 1995. He was working on a research project, entitled "Time series analysis of magnetic resonance data" funded by the Research Development Fund of the University of Sussex (Project Director: Dr. D. Watson, COGS). This research work was done in collaboration with the Robert Steiner MRI Unit, Hammersmith Hospital at London and local MRI Units.
