Overview of the Week:

In Language Arts, we will read Fireflies for Nathan in our anthology. As we listen to stories read aloud, read the story in our anthology, and in our Just Right books, students will work on comprehension skills with an emphasis on sequencing events and cause and effect. In terms of phonics, students will look for words that contain a prefix and/or suffix.

During Writer’s Workshop, we will begin our Persuasive Writing Unit.Students will begin this unit by writing a letter persuading me not to give any more written homework for the remainder of the school year. At the end of the unit the students will write a letter to next year’s first grader convincing them that first grade will be a wonderful year.

In math, we will finish our Geometry unit on Three- Dimensional shapes. This week the students will make new three–dimensional shapes, take apart three-dimensional shapes and identify two-dimensional shapes on three-dimensional shapes. They will be assessed at the end of the week.

In Social Studies we will continue our unit on Citizenship.

Have a wonderful week!
