* data collected every 5 years (reference year 2005, 2010, etc.)

Notes:

1)The increase of international rail passengers observed between 2004 and 2005 refer mostly to neighbour Countries to Greece (BG, TR).

2)Covers all undertakings.

3)The "gap" observed in rail transport for the reference years 2011-2012 can be explained by a) the general downturn of the Greek economy. b) In 2011significant price increases in nominal rates were applied gradually, which were mitigated by using special discounts and establishing buys via Internet with discounted rates. These increases were completed in the summer of 2011. Thus the above fall in passengers’ traffic in 2012 can be significantly attributed to the increase in prices. c) The method of data collection was changed during 2011, and the information communicated concerns only those passenger data arising from the company's online system. The actual ridership is estimated to be significantly higher due to the sales of non-electronic tickets.

Notes:

1)The sum of quarterly values differs from the total annual data presented in the other tables like table ''Railway transport - goods transported by type of transport''.

2)Only information for TTU=1 (containers and swap bodies) is available.

3)Covers all undertakings.

4)The "gap" observed in rail transport for the reference years 2011-2012 can be explained by TRAINOSE total international freight transport services revenues reduction within 2102 (imports, exports, transit). It is also mentioned that at the beginning of 2011, extraordinary mass transit were performed in Svilengrad – Pythio – Svilengrad route (from/ to Bulgaria-Turkey) due to repairs in railway infrastructure in Bulgaria/ Turkey cross-border and forced diversion of railway freight transport through Greek railway network.
