FROM THE PASTORAL TEAM

St. John’s is honored to host The Rev. Dr. John McGinty, Dean of Mercer School of Theology, as guest preacher this Sunday. He is native of Boston and big fan of the Red Sox. Dean McGinty came to Long Island in 2011 to serve as one of our fellow clergy and subsequently became the Dean of Mercer School of Theology.

The George Mercer Jr. School of Theology was created as a diocesan school to prepare men for the ordained ministry. Since the 1980’s, The Mercer School of Theology has supported the Christian Formation of men and women, those lay and ordained, those interested in the ordained ministry, and those who have continued to grow through continuing education programs. The introduction of the 1979 Book of Common Prayer brought the opportunity for the Mercer School of Theology to prepare “women and men for the renewed lay ministries required for the spreading of the kingdom of God. Those lay ministries are provided for in Title III of the Canons of the Episcopal Church and in specialized ministry to the elderly and in education.” The Mercer School of Theology continues to be an important resource for our diocese. For more information about Mercer School of Theology, go online to:

Dean McGinty joins us today, in part, to recognize Anthony Jones, our Deacon, and Diane DeBlasio, our Parish Intern, as students of the Mercer School of Theology. Both Deacon Anthony and Diane have received their academic preparation for ministry under Dean McGinty’s guidance.

It is a privilege for us to serve together as your Pastoral Team during this period of transition. The formation of this Pastoral Team has given St. John’s the opportunity to have a three-person Pastoral Team consisting of Priest, Deacon, and Intern. At the same time, St. John’s has willingly supported the mission of the Mercer School of Theology’s non-traditional formation program leading to ordained ministry. Dean McGinty’s presence at St. John’s honors this common mission to raise up faithful servants for the work of ministry in the Church.

As a Pastoral Team, we thank you for supporting us in our ministries while we work together with you to build God’s Kingdom here and now.

Our continuous prayers,

Your Pastoral Team: Mother Ale, Deacon Anthony, and Diane
