Instructions:

  1. Complete the application form on page 2; include any previous funding from the Professional Development Committee.
  1. Prepare a proposal for your project that includes a description of the opportunity and its importance in your career. Type this in the space provided on page 3 of this application.
  1. Using the spreadsheet on page 4, include budget information for your project. This should include travel costs, entry fees and possibly lodgingexpenses (no per diem or food allowance).
  2. Attach a letter of support written by your applied faculty or project advisor. Your faculty/advisor may also send this directly as e-mail to .
  1. Save the completed application file as a pdf (Last name, First name)and send as an e-mail attachment to .
  1. Incomplete applications will not be considered by the Committee. Be sure all required items are included.

Guidelines:

  1. Funds are for significant professional opportunities, such as travel to present and/or perform at conferences, competitions, or workshops.
  1. The Professional Development Committee reviews written proposals three times per year. Application due dates: October 15, February 1, and April 1.
  1. Funding will be distributed in roughly equal amounts. In order to fund more applicants, there is a $400 cap on student requests. Exceptions to this cap will be approved only in special cases.
  1. Higher priority will be given to students applying for funding for the first time. In research proposals, higher priority will be given to research in support of a dissertation.
  1. Retroactive applications will be considered only in exceptional cases.
  1. Applicants who need a collaborative pianist to attend an event should encourage their accompanist to submit a separate proposal and application. The committee will consider the applications jointly.
  1. Projects for the summer following degree completion will not be eligible.
  1. Alumni are not eligible for funding.
