THE CCF SCHOOLS SMALL BORE MATCH

FOR

THE “STANIFORTH “ CHALLENGE CUP

GENERAL

1.The ‘Staniforth’ match is an indoor match that as far as possible replicates the conditions of the ‘Ashburton’ match. The match takes place annually from September to December and is fired under NSRA RULES AND REGULATIONS. The competition will be shot in two stages. The best ten teams in the first stage will qualify to shoot a set of cards in the second stage under supervision of a special witness. The conditions will be the same for both stages. A reserve may be included to take the place of any cadet who may be unable to shoot in the second stage. Likewise, where more than one team has been entered by a school it will be permissible for a firer to switch teams for the second stage.

CONDITIONS

TEAMS

2.Open to any number of teams of eight firers from any school with a Combined Cadet Force Contingent. Each competitor must be a pupil at the school and be a serving member of its Cadet Contingent.

RANGE

3.Either 15 yards, (1505 cs), 20 yards, (2005 cs), 25 yards, (2505 cs).

POSITION

4.Prone.

TARGETS

5.NSRA 5 bull Cadet / Schools (1971) card. Special labels issued by CCRS must be stuck to the reverse of the Card immediately behind one of the target diagrams before the targets are handed to team members.

SHOTS

6. Two shots on each target diagram. Ten rounds per competitor.

RIFLES

7.Government issue rifles only, MOD approved modifications are allowed.

SIGHTS

8.Any backsight or foresight is allowed with the exception of telescopic sights.

TRIGGER PRESSURE

9.The trigger pull must not be adjusted to single pressure, and pull off must not be less than 1.5kg (3.3 lbs).

AMMUNITION

10.Only non-selected Government Issue Ammunition may be used.

SLINGS

11.The sling may be attached to the rifle at not more than two points and must not exceed 50mm in width or 60mm thickness. A hook, loop button or similar device may be fastened to the outside of the sleeve on the sling arm to prevent the sling from sliding.

ACCESSORIES

12.Gloves and elbow pads are permitted in accordance with NSRA rules. No other form of support or rest is allowed.

DRESS

13.Uniform need not be worn.Shooting Jackets are NOT allowed.

COACHING & SPOTTING

14.A competitor may spot for himself with the aid of binoculars or a telescope. Coaching is also permitted. A coach is not permitted to load, adjust or touch the rifle in any way.

SIGHTING SHOTS

15.Sighting shots are permitted.

TIMETABLE

16.All the cards must be shot on one day and on the same range. The first stage is to be fired between the 14thSeptember and the 2ndNovember. Cards not received by last post 2nd November will be disallowed. The second stage of the competition will be fired from the 5th November and cards must be returned by last post 10thDecember, late cards will be disallowed.

SCORING

17.The CCRS Statistical Officer will score all targets, Shot holes must not be gauged or otherwise interfered with. Method of scoring will be inward gauging.

SUPERVISION

18.The shooting, must be supervised by a Cadet Officer or a Committee member of any affiliated rifle club who will sign the witness’s certificate provided.

COMMANDING OFFICERS DECLARATION

19.A certificate that all members of the team are properly qualified to shoot in the competition must be signed by the Contingent Commander and forwarded to CCRS with the cards.

A Shield is awarded to the team that improves its position in stage 1 of the competition by the most places from the previous year.
