SIGNATURE PROGRAMS -

CONNECTING WITH OUR COMMUNITY

INTRODUCTIONAdvisory Board Ministry for this program year isCommunityR. & D. (Research and Development) - Positioning The Salvation Army appropriately with the needed Signature Programs and Connecting With Our Community. An urgency exists to ensure that The Salvation Army is the Community Ministry Leader in every Corps Community Center in our Division. This urgency requires a visioning with the members tofulfill the following outline towards achieving the objective -

Community R. & D.

  1. MISSION- Confirm the Missionofyour Advisory Board.
  1. MISSION – Assist The Salvation Army in the Mission of our religious and charitable activities, being familiar with all phases of ministry in the community by formulating plans for the improvement of programs offered and also making recommendations to the Officer Representative.
  2. RESPONSIBILITY – Cooperate and assist Salvation Army personnel in the delivery of ministry, to coordinate community ministry implementation, to assist with fund-raising and community relations and to coordinate with other community religious, health, education and welfare organizations.

MEASUREMENT - October 2010 - All Advisory Boards to test theircurrent Advisory Board Missionagainst Responsibility.

  1. Advisory Board to take these 2 statements and review them against current ministry.
  2. Strengths and weaknesses to be noted in Minutes.
  3. Comments and Plan of Action to strengthen this objective to be sent to the DHQ Advisory Board Consultant through the Minutes.
  1. MARKET for Advisory Boards.
  1. The unmet community needs programs and services.
  2. Brain-storm perceived urgent and unmet community needs.
  3. Review results of brain-storming through visits with elected officials, civic leaders, Service Clubs, Chambers of Commerce, Church leaders, school principals, to ascertain potential ministry opportunities.

MEASUREMENT - January 2011 - Test results against realistic ‘market’ needs to bring clarity to ‘The Market’. This result could also include cooperation with another charity.

  1. Results of community visits (c.f. II.MARKET,Para. 3.)to bereported in Minutes.
  2. ‘The Market’ to be identified towards the contemplated Signature Program.
  3. Advisory Board to give serious planning to possible new and/or strengthening Signature Program(s) – Connecting With Our Community.Community R. & D.
  1. MEDIUM–To challenge Advisory Board Ministry.
  1. Launch Community Relations and Development Committee (CRD Committee).
  2. Identify and list all community assistance programs delivered to the needy by all charitable organizations, including The Salvation Army, and compare list against unmet needs, e.g. identifying/target focus: ‘The Market’.

MEASUREMENT - April 2011 - Test viability of ‘The Market’ against local priorities, the support needed and develop program model.Community R. & D.

  1. In launching the CRD Committee, new members will be needed.
  2. Each Board should strive towards 14-21 members.
  3. Test potential of Signature Programagainst‘The Market’ Community R. & D.
  4. Update DHQ via the Minutes of current progress.
  5. Develop model of potential improvements and/or new Signature Programs.
  1. MONEY – for Advisory Board to assist in fund-raising.
  1. Launch Supplementary Fund-Raising Committee of the CRD Committee.
  2. Ask DHQ Development Department to appoint a representative to this committee.
  3. Ask DHQ Development Department to assist in developing the ‘Case For Support”.
  4. Are we Connecting With Our Community?Community R. & D.

MEASUREMENT - August 2011 - Effective Signature Ministry Implemented.

  1. Secure any needed approvals for new programs from DHQ.
  2. Work with DHQ Development Dept. in connection with fund-raising.
  3. Work with DHQ Development Dept. to Promote and Circulate theCase for Support.
  4. Implement community visits to promote Case for Support and funding needs.
  5. Maintain contact with DHQ via minutes giving progress and development.
