Shelter Tas Membership 2014-15

Shelter Tas will be sending out membership renewal notices this week and we would like to take this opportunity to thank our members for their ongoing support - your passion, commitment and generosity with your time and knowledge is certainly appreciated by the Shelter team. This year we have developed a membership survey, please take a moment to complete the questions, as this will help us improve our service. Shelter WA Secures $3.9M Funding

Congratulations toShelter WA whohave been successful in securing a 3 year, $3.9M contract to undertake delivery of policy advice, stakeholder engagement and influencing services for the Western Australian Housing Authority, which is due to commence on 1st October 2014. The contract will ensure that Shelter WA will continue to provide a strong voice on housing and homelessness issues in WA. These services will support the WA government’s Affordable Housing Strategy to address affordability issues and develop appropriate housing options.

Reminder - Training Opportunities through Shelter Tas

Shelter Tasmania and Singleton Consulting & Training are offering nationally accredited training units which have been subsidised by Skills Tasmania(participants are only required to pay 20% of the unit fee). These units provide an opportunity to develop & upskill, and can be studied individually, or used toward a Diploma of Management. As these units are nationally accredited, a statement of attainment will be issued for those who successfully complete the course and their assessments. Units available are:

  • Ensure team effectiveness
  • Show leadership in the workplace
  • Manage people performance
  • Develop and manage performance
  • Support the recruitment, selection and induction of staff
  • Manage workforce planning.

Factoid of the Week I Older Australians

Older Australians who are single are three times more likely to be renters than older Australians who are couples. Almost 1 in 5 single people aged over 65 is a renter, compared with 1 in 5 for couples.

Tasmania Community Fund Information Forum

The Tasmanian Community Fund Boardwill be hosting a forum on Tuesday 5th August from5.30-7pm, atthe Latrobe Council Chambers. The forum will provide information about the Fund to community groups. Around $2.5 million will be available in the next funding round, which opens on 2nd August.
