Symposium

The International Symposium to be held in Moscow, Russia from 27 to 28 May 2003 will debate important issues of the entrepreneurial university and entrepreneurial education, including problems of the university formation as a scientific and educational entrepreneurial system and also the international experience of the development of entrepreneurial education and transformation of universities to scientific and educational entrepreneurial systems.

The Russian Association for Engineering Education

The Russian Association for Engineering Education (RAEE) is one of the leading All-Russian public organizations of the country, which unifies teachers, engineers and engineering specialists from universities, research institutions, industrial enterprises, technological parks, and other organizations interested in the development and improvement of engineering education in Russia. The organization of RAEE includes 60 regional departments of the Russian Federation subjects and seven branches of federal districts. The most important activity fields of the RAEE cover the following:

fostering the formation and development of new educational structures: entrepreneurial, academic, and other types of universities;

fostering the international accreditation procedure for educational institutions and certification of educational programmes, specialists and teachers of higher school; certification of quality management systems for training engineers and educational services;

developing international links and contacts in the field of engineering education encouraging universities to participate in the 6th Framework Program of the European Union.

These trends performed by the RAEE also reflect the scope of activity of the International Symposium.

Tomsk Polytechnic University

Founded in 1896, Tomsk Polytechnic University, the first technical university in Asian Russia has trained over 100,000 engineers since its opening. By the Russian President’s Decree TPU is referred to special valued objects of the cultural heritage of Russia.

TPU today is one of leading engineering universities of Russia. 76 engineering programmes are offered to 22,000 students; 70 scientific programmes are available to 590 postgraduates; and 24 degree programmes are offered to 46 doctorates. The University consists of eight faculties, eight educational institutes, three research institutes, seven TPU branch campuses and eleven representatives in Russia and abroad, and a number of technical centres.

The following centres have been organized at TPU which work successfully and bring fruitful results:Institute of Engineering Education, Centre for Social and Information Technologies, Information and Analytical Centre, Professional Development Institute, Central Asia Centre for Engineering Education, and others.

Major themes

1. Scientific basics and practice of entrepreneurial education:

-ideas and models of entrepreneurial education;

-the content of entrepreneurial education;

-entrepreneurial education technologies;

-the experience of formation of entrepreneurial educational programmes;

-training specialists for entrepreneurial activity in research and industrial fields;

2. Formation and development of the university as a research entrepreneurial system:

- mission, definition, criteria and indices of entrepreneurial (research) university;

- organization models and mechanisms of reconstruction (transformation) of a university to entrepreneurial one;

- entrepreneurial management in university;

- fundraising in an entrepreneurial university;

- problems of the use of intellectual resources of an entrepreneurial university;

- personnel management in an entrepreneurial university;

- formation and development of entrepreneurial university as a subject of market relations;

- the quality management in training specialists, research and entrepreneurial activity of the university;

- internationalization of activity performed by the entrepreneurial university.

3. International experience of the development of the entrepreneurial education and transformation of universities to research and educational entrepreneurial system.

CALL FOR PAPERS

Prospective authors should submit a paper proposal done in Microsoft Word 6 or Word 7 format, Times New Roman-10, printed in one interval, 70 signs in a line. All figures and schemes should be grouped. Two categories of papers are to submit: A – sectional papers (3 typescript pages, A4 format) and B – posters (2 typescript pages, A4 format).

ABSTRACT STRUCTURE

The content of the first page: name of the paper, name and surname of the author/s, e-mail; concise description of the paper content (1/2 of page).

Correspondence participation in the Symposium will be available and offers publication of papers in Symposium Proceedings. Paper publications will be for those who have paid for their participation on the basis of one payment for one paper proposal.

By a recommendation of the Symposium Organizing Committee it is possible to publish a detailed paper of 8 or 10 pages in the Journal “Engineering Education”.

OFFICIAL LANGUAGES

Russian and English will be the official languages of the Symposium (simultaneous translation).

PAYMENT DETAILS

The payment for the Symposium participants is $200; this includes:

-publication of the Symposium Program and Proceedings;

-Organizing Committee parties;

-Renting class-rooms, office equipment and computers;

-Transportation, information and communication expenses;

-Food.

Payment for those who will not attend the Symposium is $100 for paper publication. Accommodation fees vary from $40-$70 per night depending on the kind of a hotel, and paid by the participants.
