First Semester

Purpose: The purpose of English 1 is to familiarize and build the student’s writing skills, vocabulary skills and continue studying major world authors from various periods in history.

Nonfiction readings
Grammar/Writing Rules
Supplies: 3-Ring Binder, Paper/Notebook, pens/pencils, a Composition book or notebook to keep in the classroom.
Testing: Quizzes will be given with OR without warning
Unit Tests
Essays
Re-Testing: Students will have 1 week after receiving the graded test to re-take.
Grading: Will follow the guideline within the student handbook.
Homework=10%
Tests/Quizzes=30%
Book Reports/In Class Work/Bell-Ringers/Journals=20%
Essays/Projects (all aspects to completed assignment)=40%
Late Work: Will follow the guidelines established in the Student Handbook. You will need to check with Mrs. Borchers for assignments on the day(s) you are absent (check the Absent Work Clipboard). YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE FOR YOU!!!
