Map of the Tribulation

The Seven Seals Focus on the First 3 ½ Years:

The Gospel accounts focus on Christ’s second coming and everything up to that point Mid-Tribulation from a perspective of those who escape Jerusalem AD 66. What is reiterated in Matthew is that Christ is coming to take His believers out of Jerusalem. Christ recounts what will happen up to that point mid-tribulation: His coming, false prophets, wars, famines, and impending doom.

The book of Acts also mentions the famine throughout the whole earth, in Acts 11:28 prior to AD 66 mid-tribulation.

Jesus did say in Matthew 24:8 War famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes "All these are the beginning of sorrows." But even the Great Tribulation concerns only Christians in the tribulation in the first 3 ½ years.

Matthew 24 tells of the second 3 ½ years, however that is not what Christ is focusing on so much as everything up to AD 66. These things in Revelation overlap because certain topics are being dealt with one at a time, Revelation is not written as a historical progressive account.

The Seventh Seal Opens For the Second 3 ½ Years to Commence: After Christ opens the seventh seal there are seven trumpets.

The Seventh Trumpet Opens For the Second 3 ½ Years to End: After The seventh angles sounds there are seven vials to follow, where the wrath of the tribulation is doubled.

Doesn’t Revelation 19 have the marriage supper after the judgment of the great whore and after the seven year tribulation?

Not necessarily, at this point Revelation is not in a historical time order. The marriage supper is before the supper of all the fowls of the air in verse 17. And these fowls have to do with the same time period as what went before in chapter 18. The reason why the marriage supper is after the judgment of the great whore is because there is a spiritual idea being convened now. Before the Gospel can go forth Israel must be displaced. Then following, the battle where the Beast and the False Prophet are destroyed has to do with the church overcoming through being willing martyrs for Christ, where they become like Christ.

After the great whore is in hell at the great white throne judgment ( 19:2-3 “for he hath judged the great whore … her smoke rose up forever and ever”) and the remnant of the Beast and the False Prophet are in the Lake of fire after the great white throne judgment (19:21) Christ and His true church deal with the apostates (20:9). Here Christ comes after there is spiritual Judgment on false religion. John 3:18 “He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.” Mark 16:15-16 “And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature. 16 He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

All these judgments end at the same time, God is not giving a lesion in history here He is conveying something much more important, which is spiritual truths.

The tribulation upon the wicked is not a reason to postpone the marriage.

The 2nd half of the tribulation is pictured in several places as being only as one hour or one day long, Rev. 14:7, 18:8, 10, 17, 19. The wicked are not central to this theme of Revelation. At the end of the tribulation the Marriage supper of the Lamb is in view forever after the Bride has made herself ready, those not invited go through tribulation. There is nothing prohibiting the Brides relationship with Christ after Revelation 7 where the 144,000 are sealed and at the same time the great multitude are seen in heaven.

Matthew 22:9-14 reads: “Go ye therefore into the highways, and as many as ye shall find, bid to the marriage. [10] So those servants went out into the highways, and gathered together all as many as they found, both bad and good: and the wedding was furnished with guests. [11] And when the king came in to see the guests, he saw there a man which had not on a wedding garment: [12] And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. [13] Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.”

Why mid-tribulation is the right time: What happens mid tribulation, if the bride has made herself ready, this is the time for determining what happens. The wrath of God on the wicked and where it ends has no relevancy to the marriage feast in this sense. Jerusalem is a picture of being cast into Hell during the second half of the tribulation. Christ does not come for His bride after He has poured His wrath out on the world, He comes to rescue her from His wrath.

The Scenario: Daniel and the four Gospels foretell the same week. In the midst of the week, St. James, the brother of Christ, is martyred as Christianity is no longer tolerable in Jerusalem. Christians are to flee Jerusalem. This is seen in Daniel 9. Daniel 9:23 reads, “And he shall confirm the covenant with many for one week: and in the midst of the week he shall cause the sacrifice and the oblation to cease, and for the over spreading of abominations he shall make it desolate, even until the consummation, and that determined shall be poured upon the desolate.”

The first half of the week refers to the tribulation inflicted upon Christians by the Jews as well as some tribulation upon Jews and Jerusalem. Thereafter, Roman armies surround Jerusalem and invade the temple grounds with their ensigns, as identified in Luke's version. (Luke 21:20-21) Christians now flee from Jerusalem after Cephas comes with a Roman army and is defeated. The second half refers to the tribulation upon Jerusalem’s apostate Jews for the redefining of the nation. At this time Israel, Jerusalem, Christian, and apostate are words that will be redefined in a new context.

Doubling Rev. 18:6: There is no 3rd 3-1/2 year period in any direct sense implied in Revelation. Yet Christ's prophecy regarding the complete dismantling of the temple stretches outside to the 70th week. Someone could argue that Isaiah 40:2 is not until some later date. However, the wrath the Revelation is concerned with is over with at the end of the week.

Parallels: Outlined below are Gospel accounts of the apocalypse shown as how they parallel with the seven seals of Revelation. That is Revelation 6:1-17 which tell of all the activity in the seven seals. The seventh seal is in chapter 8 and says only “and when he had opened theseventh seal, there was silence in heaven about the space of half an hour.”.

Matthew 24:4-28 and 24:29-31 and 24:32-51. These verses in Matthew 24 all have to do with time only up to the middle of the tribulation. However one could argue verse 35 “Heaven and earth shall pass away, but my words shall not pass away” is not until AD 70. Also verses 29-31 can be argued which read “Immediately after the tribulation of those days shall the sun be darkened, and the moon shall not give her light, and the stars shall fall from heaven, and the powers of the heavens shall be shaken:[30] And then shall appear the sign of the Son of man in heaven: and then shall all the tribes of the earth mourn, and they shall see the Son of man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.[31] And he shall send his angels with a great sound of a trumpet, and they shall gather together his elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other.” However, note that it is immediately in the Greek, not for 3 ½ years. These things all happen at once. Jesus healed this sick immediately and the apostles immediately followed Jesus in Matt. 4:20-22.

Elsewhere the Son of Man coming is only in the context of separating the wheat from the tares 25:31 or as in the days of Noah 24:37 or without warning verse 24:44. Therefore this immediately is not immediately up to the time the temple is burned to the ground. It is immediately at the end of the afore mentioned Christian tribulation, at the end of the frist first 3 ½ years. Here there shall be a short space of distraction and tribulation before the second 3 ½ years. This is where it is time to flee Jerusalem where she is surrounded by Roman Armies and there is dissention among the people. When it dawns upon the wicked that they have been trapped in the city, then they speak in Revelation 6:12-17 “And I beheld when he had opened the sixth seal, and, lo, there was a great earthquake; and the sun became black as sackcloth of hair, and the moon became as blood; [13] And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth, even as a fig tree casteth her untimely figs, when she is shaken of a mighty wind.[14] And the heaven departed as a scroll when it is rolled together; and every mountain and island were moved out of their places. 15] And the kings of the earth, and the great men, and the rich men, and the chief captains, and the mighty men, and every bondman, and every free man, hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks of the mountains;[16] And said to the mountains and rocks, Fall on us, and hide us from the face of him that sitteth on the throne, and from the wrath of the Lamb: [17] For the great day of his wrath is come; and who shall be able to stand?” This is not speaking of the great white throne judgment, but of a day or period of wrath to come.

Similarities with Matt:24:29-31 and Revelation 6:12-17

The sun be darkened / sun became black as sackcloth of hair

moon shall not give her light / the moon became as blood

the stars shall fall from heaven / And the stars of heaven fell unto the earth

they shall gather together his elect / every free man, hid themselves

First Seal: False Christ, War
Second Seal: International strife
Third Seal: Famine
Fourth Seal: Pestilence
Fifth Seal: Christians are identified as being persecuted and martyred, where they subsequently flee into the wilderness from the Abomination of desolation.

Sixth Seal: Time is running out to leave Jerusalem and the wicked hide in the walls of Jerusalem.

Similarities between three books for the 1st half of the tribulation:

Matt. 24:30 / 1 Thess. 4:16 / Rev. 21:2 / Christ returns from heaven
Matt. 24:30 / 1 Thess. 4:16 / Rev. 21:3 / With a shout (power)
Matt. 24:30 / 1 Thess. 4:16. / Rev. 19:14 / Accompanied by angels
Matt. 24:31 / 1 Thess. 4:16 / Rev. 10:7, 1 Cor 15:52 / With trumpet of God
Matt. 24:31 / 1 Thess. 4:16 / Rev. 1:10 4:1 / Believers gathered
Matt. 24:31 / 1 Thess. 4:17 / Rev. 1:7 / In clouds
Matt. 24:30 / 1 Thess. 5:3 / Rev. 1:7; 14:14 / Time unknown
Matt. 24:36 / 1 Thess. 5:2 / Rev. 3:3 / Will come as a thief
Matt. 24:43 / 1 Thess. 5:4 / Rev. 3:3, 6:15; 2 Peter 3:10 / Unaware of wrath
Matt. 24:37-39 Gk. / 1 Thess. 5:3 / Rev. 12:1 Jn. 16:21 / Travail as a mother
Matt. 24:42 / 1 Thess. 5:6 / Rev. 12:2 / Believers to watch
Matt. 24:49 / 1 Thess. 5:7 / Rev. 3:3 / Drunkenness
Matt. 24:51 / 1 Thess. 5:3 / Rev. 6:16 / Cry to the mountains

Difficulties: 1 Cor. 15:52 speaks of the last trumpet, but the last trumpet for the Christian is not the same last trumpet for the damned who are suffering wrath under each trumpet and vial.

The Four Horseman

Introduction: The horsemen bring trials to all men, but foremost these trials have to do with the question of who are God's saints. Christians will either be martyred Matthew 24:9, or be called to flee soon after this Matthew 24:16. Seal 5, 6, and 7 define things that are ideas within the first half of the tribulation.

Introduction: The church is not addressed directly in the four horseman apocalypse. However they were involved in that world. By these four horsemen Christians would have a general idea what to expect for the future regarding God’s judgment because of world’s rejection of the Messiah. It is not until we get to the 5th and 6th seal that we start to see a separation and definition between what is happening between the elect and the damned. In the Gospel account they righteous are told “And when these things begin to come to pass, then look up, and lift up your heads; for your redemption draweth nigh.”, this is when they would leave Jerusalem. But here in Revelation during the same time of the wicked we are told that they “hid themselves in the dens and in the rocks”. So, this is near to the same timing, but from two different perspectives.

What is the Mission of the Four Horsemen? The horsemen come to carry the world to the judgment before Christ comes, to separate the wheat from the tares before AD 66. (Zechariah 5:3, “Then said he unto me, This is the curse that goeth forth over the face of the whole earth: for every one that stealeth shall be cut off as on this side according to it; and every one that sweareth shall be cut off as on that side according to it.”). Zechariah 6:8 says:“Then cried he upon me, and spake unto me, saying, Behold, these that go toward the north country have quieted my spirit in the north country.” The end result of the four horsemen modeled after Zechariah is to deal with the thinking up to the end of the world just prior to the second coming mid-tribulation. They introduce the time of the Anti-Christ and the great deception of 2 Thess. 2. It is at this point where Revelation 18:6 says “Come out of her, my people, that ye be not partakers of her sins, and that ye receive not of her plagues. 5For her sins have reached unto heaven, and God hath remembered her iniquities. 6reward her even as she rewarded you,” showing the reason concerning God’s wrath, concerning she who killed the apostles and the prophets.
