Guidelines for completing this form
The form is to enable us to assess what you might need during training. We aim to tailor the programme to those who have signed up, so the more you can tell us, the better we will be able to do that. Please continue on an extra sheet if you need to.
Before signing
There are a number of key issues that you need to be aware of before signing up for this programme:
- One of the aims of the BCM programme is to equip you to live out your vocation in every aspect of your life. There will be an emphasis on how to do this missionally, and how to engage with those who would not naturally come to church, including engaging intergenerationally.
- In order to join the BCM Programme, you will need a PCC minute showing the PCC are happy to recommend you. This is because once you are commissioned you will be working under the authority of the incumbent and PCC.
- You will need to plan to attend all sessions - your cohort needs you to be there.
- During the programme you will be paired up with another person. There will be some work to do together to complete the training.
- There is a cost of £90 for the training, which you should be able to reclaim from your PCC. This enables us to pay the costs of practitioners who teach on the programme and to pay for the hire of premises for training. There are discounts when 3 or more attend from the same parish.
- On completion of the training we will contact your incumbent to let them know if you have completed the course satisfactorily.
- Before you graduate the programme you will also need to produce a reflection on how the programme has shaped you for your vocation. To help you do this, you will be required to keep a diary during the programme. More guidance will be provided during the programme.
- In order to receive the Bishop’s Commission for Mission you will need the following:
- a role description concerning how you will be used in the local church/benefice which has been approved by the PCC /incumbent
- a clear enhanced DBS disclosure for your role (you will need to do this through your parish safeguarding officer)
- you will also need to complete the C1 & C2 Safeguarding training and dates are available on the Diocesan website. You should book onto this once you have been accepted onto this programme.
- You will be commissioned in October at the Lay Ministries Service. If you have met all the conditions above, you will be granted a temporary commission to allow you to start before October. We ask that your incumbent, or someone else from the PCC, is at the commissioning service to support you.
- Following the end of the programme you will be invited to a follow up meeting to discuss how you are getting on. This is an important part of the programme and is not optional. The date will be provided on the opening day.
If you have any questions about any of this please contact me and I will be glad to talk things through with you. We look forward to welcoming you onto one of the BCM programme streams.
