Who won last issue’s contest? No one! And the answer was in plain view.

The Question:What really glaring typos appear in this Newsletter?

The answer:The caption under the picture of Jim and Julie at the Chestertown Tea Party Festival’s Classic Distance Run said that Jim was on the right and Julie was on the left. Come on, folks, Jim’s legs aren’t that nice!

On the Road Again…

Once again Jim was off and running, well, flying actually, on June 27th to present “Ads That Shouldn’t Have Run” to the Syracuse Ad Club. This popular program drew a good audience. If your Ad Club is interested, give us a call. If you haven’t attended thisentertaining and educational presentation, stay tuned for dates this Fall when we partner up with Lexis/Nexis and present this program to corporate counsel and marketing departments in the Mid Atlantic region as part of the promotion of The Law of Advertising.

Happy Birthday to Us!

July 1 markedthe Firm’s 10th anniversary and to celebrate we are extending our annual Grab-A-Crab outing to the entire day. On July 27thwe will travel to Kent Island where we will board a boat and cruise the bay eating crabs, shrimp, crab dip and corn-on-the-cob (and maybe imbibing some beer and wine). This year we are going to stop in St. Michaels and see the sites before heading home. Check our website next month for incriminating pictures of lawyers having fun (oops, didwejust used the “f” word and lawyer in the same sentence?)

And a Move Up

Shannon Lancaster has taken over the Firm’s communications activities. Shannon has toiled with us for over a year and there are some who might sympathize with her. But she’s still smiling. Congratulations.

This is Not an Intellectual Exercise

By Jim Astrachan

I ran into an old chum at the Bar Convention a few weeks back and we spoke of many things over some wine. He shared with me that he enjoyed these columns, but added they “aren’t intellectual and can’t be cited as authority.”

The Small Businessman and the New Supreme Court

By Peter H. Gunst

For as long as I can remember, courts, scholars and politicians have lauded the independence and entrepreneurship of small business people such as service station dealers.

And You Thought Your Kids’ Phone Bill Was Expensive…

By Molly Dennison

$11,000?!? For one phone call?!? No, this is not a warning to parents of teenagers with wireless phones. This is a heads up for businesses engaged in telemarketing sales calls. And yes, you read that correctly, $11,000 for one phone call. If you telemarket and that doesn’t interest you in what the Telemarketing Sales Rule requires, congratulations, you have more money than you need.
