The Purpose of Government

American Government

Ever wonder what the government is good for, what is its purpose? Well simply put, the government is defined as an authority that rules a country, an essential part of a nation. The government tends to provide stability, which makes many things possible. The government makes laws, provides services, and keeps order. The government solves disagreements between individuals, groups, and nations. Without the government who would settle disputes? The government sets up guidelines to help protect, bring order and help us live peacefully together. Formal governments have been around for more than five thousand years. And governments back then performed about the same way as they do today.
One of the most important jobs of the government is to provide laws, or rules of conduct. The laws are important since they help prevent conflicts between individuals, groups, and nations. The government helps settle any conflicts that do occur. With the use of laws the government helps establish order and provides security for its citizens.
Not only does the government make laws but it also makes sure that people obey them. Judges, courts, and law enforcement are in place to protect the citizens, and to determine the appropriate punishment if it necessary. In addition to providing and enforcing the laws the government provides many other serves. The government sets up the armed services, police forces, and fire departments to protect its citizens.

The government also provides services of education, health facilities, and road construction. Withouteducation, reading traffic and streets signs would be impossible. If someone who gets hurt and needs to go to the hospital and you have never been to that hospital before how would you get there? Could you follow the directions that they wrote down? Education is obviously important to a society; it leads to new inventions, and we use what we have learned every day.Governments also create a plan for the country for the future by setting goals, making budgets, and working with other countries, and governments.
So, if you ever stop and think “Is the government really necessary?”remember, the reasons it was set up. There is a reason why the articles of confederation were replaced with something stronger. There is good in a government that performs necessary services to education, protect the citizens and itself.
