This is a learning partnership between men in trucking profession and their friends / colleagues in Kenya and India, aimed at sharing strengths and drawing inspiration for deeper action against common concerns.

The primary participants include:

India- Truckers and their friends in Gurgaon (via TCIF – Transport Corporation of India Foundation) and Nagaland (via NEDHIV – North Eastern Drug/HIV training centre)

Kenya - In Kenya the SALT visit would likely focus around one of the Wellness Centers put in place along the highway in GLIA (Great Lakes Initiative on AIDS) context.

OBJECTIVE:

  1. The overall process is aimed at learning from the actions done by the truckers in their living environment, to address their identified and acknowledged concerns.
  2. The interaction should also result in an increased motivation and improved strategies for ongoing action in both the countries and beyond.

PROCESS:

  1. The NGO team makes a SALT visit to the truckers to learn from their experiences on how they are responding to their life concerns.

a.

Introduction: Who are we? - Self introduction as human beings (eg. Parents, brothers, sisters, as a community member)

What are we proud of? What makes us happy in our home and neighborhood life?

What are our concerns in our family, neighborhood and professional life? How are we responding to them? Who are our partners in this response (family members, friends, professional colleagues)

What are the outcomes? What are we learning from these responses?

How could we strengthen / encourage one another in this response?

What experiences / lessons do we want to share with others?

b.Summarize the discussion in the followingformat:

Post the document and videos on ning. 2 weeks of time for participants from both the countries to view / read each other’s experience, receive the parcel by DHL etc.

Team mates from both countries identify the issues needing deeper exploration and sharing across the borders and create an agenda for international SALT visits.

2.SALT VISITS ACROSS BORDERS

After initial set up of video conferencing facilities:

Introductions and Greetings across the borders.

Each team shares – what they have liked about the response from across the border and why? What similarities are there?

What strengths would they like to share with their counterparts across the border? What would they like to learn from?

……..Additional issues identified during ning sharing.

Questions for reflection after the SALT visit:

How has our vision been strengthened as a result of the sharing?

What ways of working and thinking (attitudes, ways of relating with one another) has been strengthened?

How do we incorporate this into our ongoing life / program to emerge stronger?

What opportunities for collaboration do we see?
