The Centre and site

Danbury is an outdoor education and activity centre run by Essex Outdoors (Essex CC) and located in seventy acres of Essex countryside close to Chelmsford and just one mile from Junction 18 of the A12. Adjacent to a country park and close to sites owned by the National Trust and managed by the Wildlife Trust, the Danbury parkland includes areas of deciduous woodland with ancient oak and sweet chestnut trees.

Essex Outdoors at Danbury manages a team offering environmental education and in particular Forest School support. Essex Outdoors was a key founding member of the Forest School networking group for Essex which developed under theumbrella of the FEI as the Essex cluster group. Now operating as FSA Essex the group has organised two very successful local conferences, a variety of meetings and CPD for members and each year offers a small grant scheme to support Forest School developments.

Accommodation and food at Danbury

Danbury offers the following accommodation:

  • Danbury Cabins for up to 12 people each. Shared accommodation for up to 110 people, in very comfortable shared bunk house style log cabins. These are filled on a first come basis you may be booked into the bunkhouse/residential block. Danbury supply the duvet and pillow, delegates will need to bring own bottom sheet, duvet cover and pillow case (or sleeping bag, if preferred).
  • Danbury tents for 6-8 people each. Shared accommodation for 100. Danbury provide groundsheet and mattress – delegates need to bring own sleeping bag.
  • Pitches for your own tents. Accommodation unlimited. Those camping can of course use the toilets and shower blocks

Charges include all meals provided by Danbury and the food is highly recommended receiving very good reviews form delegates on other conferences! If you are staying for the full conference this will include an evening meal on Friday (available up until 10pm), three meals on Saturday and breakfast and midday meal on Sunday. Arranging your own accommodation

If you don’t want to stay on site the following are possible places to stay, suggested by Danbury Outdoors...

As parking is limited at the Centre if you do stay offsite we may be able to arrange transport.

Charges for delegates booking for Conference only with no accommodation, includes all meals apart from breakfasts

Saturday Buffet Lunch

  • Selection of Locally Sourced Sliced Meats
  • Farmhouse Lamb & Seasonal Vegetable or
  • Goats Cheese, Red Onion & Baby Spinach Flaky Wraps
  • Homemade Salmon, Red Pepper & Broccoli or
  • Smoked Ham, Brie and Cherry Tomato Tart
  • Locally Sourced Selection of Cheeses & Biscuits with regional Pickles
  • Hot Minted New Potatoes, Coleslaw, Mixed Leaf Salad, Tomato & Onion Salad, Curried Potato Salad, Savoury Rice Salad, Tomato & Basil Pasta Salad.
  • Warm Bread Roll with Butter
  • Selection of Cold Desserts & Fresh Fruit Basket

Saturday Evening Meal

  • Chicken Korma Curry or Spinach & Paneer Rogan Josh

Plain Boiled Rice, Onion Bhajis & Naan Bread OR

  • Traditional Steak & Ale Pie or Roasted Root Vegetable Parcels, Parsley Potatoes, Seasonal Vegetables & Rich Gravy Sauce OR
  • Battered Cod Fillet & Lemon, Garden or Mushy Peas

Chunky Chipped Potatoes

Deserts – a choice from:
