Heating Policy Review 2013

Consultation Questions

1. In view of the need for homes to be both well insulated and have an efficient heating system, should the choice to retain a current open fire central heating system be considered?

2. If you live in a rural area and oil or wood pellet systems are your only choice, what would be your preference?

What would you consider to be the advantages of a wood pellet fuelled system?

What problems would the added work involved of loading fuel and cleaning the boiler of ash cause you?

Are there any other preferences you would think we should consider?

3. Oil heating is clean and efficient but requires bulk fill ups which are expensive. What ways do you think the problem of finding the money for this could be overcome?

What are your views on schemes using saving stamps or local community “pay as you go” schemes and would you welcome such a community based scheme if it was available?

4. The Housing Executive currently provides a secondary heating source with its heating systems which is usually an electric focal point fire. What are your views on the proposal that the Housing Executive would retain an existing operating open fire (without back boiler) as a secondary heat source?

5. Our heating systems are controlled by timers and thermostats to achieve efficient comfort in your home. These can be complex. Are there any improvements you would like to see to the controls to make them easier to use, particularly if you have any disability?

Are you aware that advice is available at time of the system service or from Heatsmart particularly for senior citizens or those with a disability?

6. How effective do you think the approach taken that the most important thing is the high insulation of your home will be?

What advantages would this approach have for you and would it make a real difference to your family budget?

7. What are your overall views on the proposed changes and what other options do you think should be explored?
