Gillibrand Named to Influential Leadership Group, the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee

Honor Rarely Assigned to Freshmen Members

Washington DC – In an announcement made late on Wednesday, Representative-elect was named to the influential Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. Three new members were named to the group responsible for nominating Democratic Members to serve on House Committees and advising the Democratic Leader on policy concerns. It is an honor for any member to be nominated to the Committee, especially a freshman Representative. This position will allow Representative-elect Gillibrand to have a greater position of influence on the policy priorities of the 110th Congress.

In response to the announcement, Representative-elect Gillibrand said, “It is an honor and privilege to participate in policy deliberations with my colleagues and our leadership on the Democratic Steering and Policy Committee. I am grateful to be assigned such an important and substantive role in the 110th Congress, and I look forward to working with our leadership to ensure that the priorities and values of our upstate New York working families are well represented.”

Complete House Committee assignments will most likely be announced early in the New Year, the Steering Committee is an exception given its role in Committee assignments.
