Summer Reading Project for Incoming 7th Graders

DUE FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 11th – NO EXCEPTIONS

First, read any book of your choice. You should consider the following genres when making your choice:

*Fantasy/Adventure*Mystery*Historical Fiction*Science Fiction*Realistic Fiction

Secondly, you are to complete the following packet (all four pieces) based on the book that you read.

PACKET ARRANGEMENT: All items submitted should appear in the following order:

1. Cover Sheet

2. Table of Contents

3. Products (place them in order in which you have listed them in the table of contents)

Each product should be created on individual 81/2” by 11” sheets of white paper. None of the pages should be stapled or clipped. Your name and the date should appear on the back of each page.

INFORMATION TO INCLUDE ON THE COVER SHEET: (May take more than one sheet to include all information properly)

RUBRIC FOR EVALUATION:Here is how I will be evaluating your projects.

Ideas(15pts) - Are the products thoughtful and creative? Do they show that the student read and thought about this book? Does the student see how this book relates to life? Does the student understand why it may have been written?

Organization (15pts) - Are the ideas in each of the products presented in an order that makes them easy to understand?

Voice (15pts) - Are the products unique? Do they have pizzazz?

Word Choice (15pts) - Does the student use interesting and powerful vocabulary that enhances the reader’s experience with the products?

Sentence Fluency (15pts) - Does the student construct complete and varied sentences? Does the writing flow? Does it have a rhythm?

Conventions(10pts) - Does the writing reflect that the student was conscientious about spelling, punctuation, capitalization, grammar, and usage?

Presentation (15pts) - Does the student follow the required format? Is the packet assembled in the order requested? Are the products attractive or intriguing to view? Is it evident that the student made this project a priority?
