Nell Newton was a Charter member of the Zonta Club of Jamestown which started November 17, 1921. During her years in Zonta,Nell held a variety of offices including President of the club in 1922-23 and assisted in the formation of four new area Zonta clubs. Upon her death, a scholarship was established at Jamestown Business College for a woman who was preparing for a career in business. The requirements for this scholarship have changed over the years, but the intent of supporting professional women remains the same.

Today, the Zonta Club of Jamestown proudly sponsors the Nell Newton Scholarship, which is a financial award of $1,000 based upon merit and need, to a female furthering her education with the intention of making business her profession.Applicants must reside in one of the following school districts: Bemus Point, Cassadaga Valley, Chautauqua Lake, Falconer, Frewsburg, Jamestown, Panama, Randolph, Sherman, or Southwestern.

APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS

  1. Completion of an official application. Applications may be photocopied from an original. Applications MUST be typed.This form is available as an electronic document for completion from your guidance counselor or at
  2. Submission of two (2)confidential letters of recommendation from adults not related to the applicant, such as teachers, school officials, employers and community leaders. These letters should be emailed or mailed directly to the Zonta Club of Jamestown by the author or, if submitted with this form by the applicant, these letters should be received in a sealed envelope to maintain confidentiality.
  3. Verification from applicant’s current school of enrollment including transcript and grades from the fall 2017 semester. These can be electronically submitted through the e-mail listed above.

The Zonta Club of Jamestown has final authority over any and all aspects of the scholarship.
