Central Missouri Area State Director’s Report

INTRODUCTION

It is with great honor, love and respect that I am able to serve the State of Missouri and the Southwestern Region. I thank my State Director for entrusting me this task. In addition, I am grateful to the brothers of the Nu Theta Sigma graduate chapter for allowing me the opportunity to serve as chapter president. I would be remiss without saying that this has been one of the most challenging and rewarding experiences that I have encountered in my 25 years of service to this great fraternity.

The past year has been one of ‘growing pains’ for Nu Theta Sigma. I have worked extremely hard to build the membership so that we could better serve our four collegiate chapters and their respective universities and communities. The chapter has consistently maintained 5 active and working members. Job relocation of Brother Chantez Adams has left a huge void in the chapter and the recent announcement from Brother Robin Clay to step away from the chapter and the fraternity has created and additional void. So at the present, I am serving as Advisor to all of our chapters.

We continue to strive for balance and harmony. We have tried to do our best to provide brotherhood, scholarship and service to each other. We continue to do work in the communities that we serve. My goal is to re-activate brothers in the area, recruit new brothers to the fraternity and bring all collegiate chapters to ‘good statuses with the region and the national headquarters.

CHAPTER UPDATES

Nu Theta Sigma – The chapter has 5 financial brothers at this time. This includes one brother that relocated to Arizona and will be transferring to a chapter there, one brother whom announced that he was stepping away and one newly transferred brother. The chapter is seeking to reacclimatize inactive brothers to rededicate themselves to the chapter and the fraternity. The chapter has paid national chapter taxes and insurance and has one brother registered for the leadership conference. The chapter has provided free income tax preparations to senior citizens and students. The chapter continues to volunteer with the Central Missouri Food bank in Columbia, MO and the Salvation Army in Columbia and Jefferson City. The chapter volunteers with the Jefferson City Boys and Girls Club and is preparing for the March of Dimes Walk for Babies, The American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life, One in Christ Baptist Church Youth Ministries and researching the possibility of starting a Central Missouri Area Sigma Beta Club. The main goal is the sustainability of the chapter, financially and membership wise. We currently have two young men that are interested in membership intake and one soon to graduate collegiate brother to join the chapter. Brother Gregory McAboy will complete his master’s degree this may and will be moving and transferring to St. Louis (Kappa Sigma).

Beta Chi – Beta Chi was reinstated to the campus by Lincoln University after being suspended for fighting and violating a director order rendered by university officials. To date, two brothers are financial in the chapter and are working extremely hard to raise funds to get the chapter in good financial status with the fraternity. The chapter has great interest from aspiring young men. One brother is due to graduate in May and will transfer into Nu Theta Sigma.

Eta Gamma – The chapter is progressing as smoothly as possible. The members are working towards academic improvements to remain in good status with the Greek council. The chapter has is working in the community and on campus. The chapter is currently planning for their upcoming Blue and White weekend. The chapter is in good standing with the region and the national headquarters and had brothers registered for the leadership conference.

Mu Tau – Mu Tau us currently inactive due to membership. I am in the process of getting Demetrious Davis reactivated so that he can assist with getting the chapter up and going. There is some interest in a couple of young men in Kirksville that are interested in membership intake.

Rho Delta – The chapter has just about completed their requirements to becoming active. Brothers have submitted monies to become legal with the fraternity. The chapter has about 8 brothers that will attend the leadership conference.

SUMMARY

My immediate goals for the area are to get all chapters up and going financially, increase the areas membership and prepare for conclave. I will try to readjust my schedule to participate in regional conference calls, improve on communication with my state board. A rededication service is in order for alumni brothers in this area so that we can have a better functionality with Nu Theta Sigma. Nu Theta Sigma is going to have to do better, period in order to help keep Missouri successful. I want to have quality advisors at all collegiate chapters in our area. I will plan to have an area wide retreat prior to the fall semester build bridges with the graduate and collegiate chapters in Central Missouri as well as the state.
