This week Mary Harris & Mick, thank you.

Thank you to everyone who gave up their time to help with clearing the hall in preparation for the start of our building works. Your hard work & enthusiasm is really appreciated. Fr. John

SICK & RETIRED PRIESTS COLLECTION

Next weekend our parish will take up a collection for the sick and retired priests of the Diocese of Westminster. Your generous donation helps ensure these men who’ve lived their vocation and given their lives to the Church are provided for in their elderly and infirm years. The Sick & Retired Priests Fund helps cover medical, housing, convalescence and the personal needs of these priests, often alone and many without personal savings. They’ve been here for us; let’s be there for them. Don’t forget if you pay tax, you can add 25p to every £1 that you give (at no extra cost to you) by completing the Gift Aid declaration on the back of the donation envelope. Those of you who pledged in the “Growing in Faith” campaign make a real difference and the support of those who have decided to contribute is hugely appreciated. Those who have pledged are not expected to give again.

______

NEW CHURCH CLEANING ROTA

The new rota is now available and ready for collection by those who kindly give their time to clean the Church each week. Your work is greatly appreciated. Please take your copy from the Church Porch.

NOVEMBER – the Month of the Holy Souls

During the month of November nine Masses will be celebrated for the repose of the souls of the people whose names are included in our ‘November deceased list/Book of Life’. Please take a purple sheet of paper and an envelope from the table at the back of the church and put on it the names of the people you wish to be prayed for and return it through the Presbytery letterbox.

BLESSING OF GRAVES –WARE CEMETERY

This year the Blessing of Graves at Ware Cemetery will take place on Sunday 1st November at 2.00 p.m. Please meet at the Cemetery car park on Wulfrath Way, there will be a short service and then Fr John will go round to bless the individual graves, as indicated by either relatives or friends.

THANK YOU

Thank you to all the people who have swept up the fallen leaves and conkers from our Church car park thus far. Your help is really appreciated; if there is anyone else who would like to volunteer to help keep the car park clear during the Autumn period, your efforts would be most welcome.

Shoe boxes - Operation Christmas Child

Operation Christmas Child sends 'shoe boxes' filled with gifts for children around the world. Our local primary and secondary schools - Sacred Heart School, Ware and St Mary's Catholic School, Bishop's Stortford- already take part inthis programme. If you are not already donating a 'shoe box' through the school, you may like to donate one through the parish.

Refugee Crisis - The latest update from Seeking Sanctuaryand Caritas France is that they are currently overwhelmed with goods for refugees in Calais and elsewhere, and don't expect to start receiving goods again until December.

Meanwhile, 'Samaritans Purse', the Christian relief organisation which runs Operation Christmas Child, is currently using its well established network to assist with refugees from Syria and elsewhere, so the 'shoe box' also provides anopportunity to send help to refugees.

If you are interested insending a'shoe box' pleasetake a leafletfrom the back of thechurch.

Collection of filled 'shoe boxes' will be on Sunday 15th November, and will be taken to Christ Church which is the local collectionpoint.

ADMISSIONS TO OVERSUBSCRIBED CATHOLIC SCHOOLS

Please be aware that the Bishops of England and Wales have introduced a new Certificate of Catholic Practice for use by Parish Priests. For the purposes of the Certificate, a person is a practising Catholic if they observe the Church’s precept of attending Mass on Sundays and holidays of obligation (see Catechism of the Catholic Church, paragraphs 2041-2042). If you think that you will need a Certificate completed for a Primary School in the coming year, please speak to Fr John.

I BELIEVE IN ONE, HOLY, CATHOLIC AND APOSTOLIC CHURCH

135. Q. What is the relation between the Church and the Jews?

A.  Jews are the “older brethren” of Christians, because God loved them first and spoke to them first. Jesus Christ as man is a Jew and this fact unites us. The Church recognises in him the Son of the living God and this fact separates us. In awaiting the final coming of the Messiah we are one.
