GUIDLINES FOR PRINTING TECHNOVA STYLE PLASTIC PLATES ON HP5000

Step 1….HP5000/5100 Menu settings

Make sure when setting up printer that these menu items are set as follows

Ink Density- 1

ProRes- 1200 DPI

RET- Off

These are found in the Print Quality Menu on your HP5000 control panel

Step 2

Install HP5000 Driver on Application workstation. Use the HP Cd that came with the printer to install the Print Driver. USE THE PS DRIVER!

Driver settings are very basic but it is critical to always print using CARD STOCK in the paper selection menu portion of the driver. GO to the driver properties after it’s installed, go to printer preferences and select “card stock” as the media selection so it always defaults to card stock when printing to the HP Printer using the PS driver.

Step 3

Place Plate material in top manual load trey, set up a file in your application and print directly to the printer with the proper page size and placement for press as desired, i.e., if you are printing to an AB Dick 9800, allow an extra 1.25 inches at the lead edge of the document for gripper and setback on press cylinder. Example, let’s say you are printing a letter size, 8.5x11. Simply set the page size to Legal and it will move the image down on the plate enough to accomadate the correct gripper margin/set-back margin. I recommend printing straight from Acrobat Reader as PDF buy most any application for Graphics will suffice using the Postscript Driver provided by HP.

Step 4

Follow instructions on provided Document (Solutions for problems with Laser Plates) for cleaning plate with LASER EX CLEAN, a pink chalky solution that will remove all the laser scatter from the plate material. If you do not pre-treat the plate with a suitable cleaner, spots and specs will appear all over the sheet of paper when printing. IF ANY SPOTS REMAIN, use a water miscible solvent to clean the plate on press, just put solvent on a cotton pad and wipe plate down

Step 5

Mix fountain solution sample according to instructions provided o product sheet. Use Enhanced or Optimum Fountain solution when running both polyester and laser or any combination of plate types. Enhanced and Optimum are EXCELLENT universal solutions that runs great with all plate types. Set water and ink to lowest settings on press and adjust ink, then water, repeat until proper ink and water balance is achieved
