Maple Hills PTA Board Meeting
October 5, 2016

Call to Order

The meeting was called to order at 9:32 a.m. by Vice President Jessica Howe. A quorum was present.

Approval of Minutes

September minutes were reviewed. One change under the Treasurer’s Report: “Paypal” should be “US Paypal”, since charges were made by US Bank. Minutes will be filed as amended.

Treasurer’s Report - Dawn

September report was reviewed. All grade level grant applications have been approved for the year. Kindergarten will be pre-paying for popcorn this year. Treasurer’s report will be filed, subject to financial review.

New Business

Reading Zone – Only has enough grant money to pay for a support EA until spring break. We will suggest applying for an ISF grant.

Qiana made a motion to not run the Holiday Store this year. Second. Motion carries.

Principal’s Report – Mrs. Tapper

*Curriculum Night – Mrs. Tapper was happy with the way Curriculum Night went. Suggested that it would be nice to have more time to look at booths and mingle in the MP Room.

*74 people showed up to the volunteer training last week. People need to fill out a background check form online as well as attending training.

*Working on making sure kids have enough time to eat during lunch.

*First Site Council meeting is schedule October 20th. Still need reps. for May Valley, Tiger Mountain and Mirrormont.

*Donuts for Dads is this Friday. Discussion of showing the Volunteer Training slideshow after the event.

Ongoing Programs

*All teachers have an art docent their classrooms.

*Eagle Reader is up and running online. First Eagle Reader Clubhouse will be in November.

Advocacy - Korista

*Leg. Assembly will be at the Olympia Red Lion Hotel on October 21st-22nd. Delegates will vote on the WSPTA 2-year legislative platform. Anyone can attend.

*Candidates for the Superintendent of Public Instruction, Erin Jones and Chris Reykdal, will be holding three public forums in October. See the OSPI website for dates and locations

ISF Report – Jenna (emailed report)

*Jenna is putting together a letter to send out to teachers explaining the ISF grant process, along with a link to the applications. The ISF grant window is not currently open, but will be soon.

Special Needs - Kim

*The first Special Needs coffee was held yesterday at Starbucks. Six people attended. The next meeting will be in November.

*Kim now has 63 books which have been donated to the Special Needs library. Mrs. Stempson had a lesson on one of the books during library classes.

*Kim is looking at how to incorporate art projects that celebrate artists with Special Needs.

Membership – Nicole and Makisha

296 members entered into PT Avenue. Enrollment is currently 422. We are getting close to reaching 100% teacher membership.

Volunteers - Rebecca

Fall Dance (Candyland theme) will be this Friday.

President’s Report – Jessica, on behalf of Darlene

*Orange Ruler fundraiser kick off will be May 1st, Turn in day May 16th, Run on May 17th. Beth Hardy and Tiffany Alegrete will chair.

*Reflections – Darlene is going to chair this year.
