Position Title:Transportation Volunteer

Position Description/Responsibilities: The Transportation Volunteer may provide rides, shopping and/or errands. Duties may involve driving a client to non-medical or medical appointments, to the pharmacy, bank, store, hair appointment, to and from church or other locations that add to their quality of life. Shopping or running errands may be done with or for clients. Examples include assisting with shopping and purchasing items, picking up or dropping off prescriptions, or stopping at the Post Office for stamps. The volunteer calls the client the day before to arrange a time for pick up.The volunteer reports problems or concerns that may arise to the Transportation Coordinator (Patti).The volunteer reports time and miles every month to the (TC) Patti.

Position Title:Friendly Visitor

Position Description/Responsibilities:A Friendly Visitor willprovide companionship for a client either at his/her home or in the community. This may include reading, conversation, viewing photos, telling stories, going for a walk, letter writing, going to social events such as concerts, picnics, movies, plays, festivals, etc.A friendly visitor will listen, encourage and share in conversation or other social activity.Volunteer assists in increasing the participant’s support network through sharing ideas and information.Phone calls at other times are encouraged.Volunteer reports hours & miles on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

Position Title:In-Home Volunteer

Position Description/Responsibilities:The In-Home Volunteer may assist with daily living tasks such as light housekeeping; vacuuming, sweeping, dusting, organizing, cooking, dishes, laundry, assisting with bill writing, reading printed materials or other tasks of daily living.

Note:No personal care (shower, toileting, transferring, etc.) or administering medications are permitted by volunteers. Volunteer reports hours & miles on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

Position Title:Time Away Volunteer (Respite)

Position Description/Responsibilities: The Time Away Volunteer will visit with a client who needs 24 hour care to give their caregiver respite, or time away, for a needed break or to take care of personal business. Visiting may include listening and conversing, sharing a meal or snack, engaging the client in an activity or just sitting with the client. The Time Away Volunteer assists in increasing the caregiver’s support network through sharing ideas and information. Note: No personal care (showers, toileting, transferring) or administering medications are permitted by volunteer. Volunteer reports hours & miles on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

Position Title:Office Volunteer

Position Description/Responsibilities: The Office Volunteer supports the daily operations of Interfaith Caregivers’ program by assisting with various office duties, such as preparing bulk mailings, filing, making phone calls, data entry, computer work, assisting with activities and fundraising events, and other office/clerical duties as assigned. The Office Volunteer regularly communicates assignments, progress and questions with the OSC (Tammy) or person appointed by the OSC. Volunteer reports hours & miles on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

Position Title:Minor Home Repairs Volunteer

Position Description/Responsibilities:The Minor Home Repairs Volunteer may assist with indoor or outdoor repairs, such as fixing a door knob, installing a shower curtain, installing a door bell, replacing trim, and other minor household repairs. Contact client to arrange time to assess and/or perform project and to determine what tools are necessary and whether the client can provide them. Inform OSC (Tammy) when project has been scheduled and again when completed. Volunteers may install or repair items to the extent that they feel comfortable. Volunteers should not provide any service that requires licensing (i.e.: electrical, plumbing etc.) Volunteer reports hours & miles on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

Position Title: Yard Work Volunteer

Position Description/Responsibilities: Yard work may include one-time lawn mowing, lawn edging, weeding, hedge trimming, tree trimming, raking, removing debris, garden work, cleaning 1st level gutters, and other necessary outdoor chores. Use of volunteer’s tools is permitted. Contact OSC with assistance in securing additional tools if necessary. Volunteer reports hours on a monthly basis as well as any problems or concerns that may arise to the Other Services Coordinator (Tammy).

General Qualifications/Skills:

  • A commitment to care, service, dignity and worth of older adults and people with disabilities.
  • The ability to respect and maintain confidentiality.
  • Must complete volunteer application and pass criminal background check.

Training Provided:Volunteer Orientation, optional ongoing training as scheduled by Interfaith Caregivers.

Position Parameters:

  • 1 year commitment is requested.
  • Schedule varies according to the needs and schedules of the volunteer and the client.
  • An individual service may range from 15 minutes to 3 hours and are performed at the home of the client or in the community.
