The Lunchroom Fight

Directions: Read the following accounts of eye-witnesses to the fight at lunch. As the principal you will need to determine who is at fault for the fight, and write an incident report of the fight that would seem most accurate given the eye-witness testimony.

Students involved in the fight – 1. Hannibal Barca (football player, C average student, senior who has been known to bully other students) 2. Julius Caesar (A average student on the Debate Team, sophomore who is known to be soft spoken and shy)

Eye-witness #1 – Clara Barton (cheerleader) – “I was sitting with all my friends at our lunch table, and that little twerp, Julius was yelling about how ugly Hannibal was. Hannibal caught him and beat him up, ‘cause Julius had thrown milk on Hannibal in the hallway. Julius had it coming, you don’t start something that you’re not willing to finish.”

Eye-witness #2 – Attila Hun (football player) – “It was totally self-defense, Julius was yelling about how he was going to beat up Hannibal for looking at his girlfriend. I didn’t even know Julius had a girlfriend. Julius chased Hannibal around the table a few times, because Hannibal didn’t even want to get down with Julius. Then Julius picked up a milk carton, and smashed it on the back of Hannibal when he was walking away from him. Hannibal turned around and pushed Julius away. I guess Julius tripped over one of the tables and hit his face on the floor pretty hard.”

Eye-witness #3 – John Locke (teacher) – “I was in the hallway walking to Mr. Roseau’s class, and I noticed Hannibal walking away from me. I stopped to talk to another student for a moment, and I saw Julius with his friend Antony who were facing away from me. After Hannibal passed them a few seconds later I heard a commotion. Antony was standing there, and Julius was running past me toward the cafeteria area. Hannibal was yelling at him and was closing the distance on him. I asked Antony what happened, and he said, ‘I don’t know, that kid is a bully.’ I assumed he meant that big kid, Hannibal. He was in my class last year, and he constantly bullied the smaller kids. Julius was also my student, nice kid, but kind of strange.”

Eye-witness #4 – Cleopatra Nile (girlfriend of Antony) – “Julius is a bad influence on Antony. He’s always trying to get into people’s business. He’s kinda a spaz. Hannibal is so cute, and pretty nice from what I know, I doubt he would do anything wrong. Julius was just messing around too much and was all hyper and he was trying to start stuff with Hannibal.”

Eye-witness #5 – George Washington (Student Body President) – “I saw Hannibal run into the cafeteria chasing after Julius. Hannibal is always getting himself in trouble, but Julius is always bothering other students about activities and their opinions on certain subjects. Julius likes to argue a lot, so I just figured that Hannibal had lost an argument with Julius. They were both fighting each other, but Hannibal got the better of Julius and hit Julius hard, knocking him down. When I saw that I went to go get the dean while the other kids started to crowd around and cheer on the fight.”
