About CSA

CSA, a Cambridge Information Group company, is a leading publisher of bibliographic databases and print journals used by more than 4,000 research institutions worldwide. CSA annually publishes more than 700,000 abstracts culled from more than 14,000 sources.

Headquartered in Bethesda, Maryland, CSA also has editorial offices in New York City, Oxford, San Diego, Beachwood, Ohio, and East Grinstead (UK) and sales offices in Oxford, Amsterdam, Lyon, Yokohama, Hong Kong, and Port Melbourne (Australia).

CSA was the first bibliographic publisher to distribute A&I databases through a Web-based service. Today, the award-winning Internet Database Service provides Web access to more than 100 bibliographic databases covering major areas of research. These include both databases that are published by CSA and databases from other publishers. The Internet Database Service features benefits such as unlimited site-wide access, Links to Fulltext, and extensive usage tracking and analysis tools.

Current CSA Initiatives

IDS 7.0 – CSA is preparing Version 7.0 of the Internet Database Service for release in 2004. It will feature an updated look and feel for the site as well as easier navigation and powerful search enhancements.

Fulltext – CSA is increasing the number of electronic fulltext resources available through the Internet Database Service. It now offers access to a number of collections of journals from SAGE Publications as well as the journals distributed through BioOne. In addition, fulltext resources from the American

Psychological Association, the American Theological Library Association (ATLA), and Idea Group Publishing are available through the Internet Database Service.

Humanities – CSA has long been associated with signature databases in major areas of scientific research such as materials science, environmental sciences and pollution management, biological sciences, aquatic sciences and fisheries, biotechnology, engineering, computer science. In the late 1990’s, CSA significantly expanded into areas of the social sciences. Now CSA is expanding into the arts and humanities, publishing databases such as ARTbibliographies Modern and Design and Applied Arts Index (DAAI), and distributing databases from other publishers, such as the Avery Index to Architectural Periodicals through the Internet Database Service.

Linking – Providing linking to library resources, especially electronic fulltext, remains a critical asset of the Internet Database Service. IDS users can link bibliographic search results to more than 10,000 electronic fulltext journals and publications from more than twenty-five publishers and distributors.

Bibliographic Management – CSA is a partner in RefWorks, a company providing Web-based bibliographic management services. With RefWorks, users can maintain personal databases of bibliographic references that are accessible from any computer with an Internet connection. These references can be accessed for research; shared with collaborators or students; or manipulated to create bibliographies and citations in hundreds of formats.
