First Grade News

Week Ending September 5th, 2014

The First Grade team works hard to create a monthly newsletter to help our parents stay aware of important information, key dates, parent tips, specials schedule, and vocabulary words for the week are all included. Newsletters are sent home on the first Friday of every month. Our newsletter is also posted on the first grade website at pval.org

Get A Good Start - School Start Time

Students will be dismissed to classrooms at 7:40 a.m. Instruction time begins at 7:50 a.m. Students will be counted tardy if they enter the classroom after 8:05 a.m. (Ifa bus arrives late, those students will not be counted tardy.) Morning announcements will begin at 8:10 a.m. A good breakfast is vital to your child's state of attention and focus. Please ensure that your child eats a nutritious breakfast each morning. Those who eat breakfast in the cafeteria must arrive no later than 7:45am.

Morning Snacks

Our classes eat lunch around 11:35 each day. Every morning around 10:00 we try to have a small snack, such as pretzels or crackers. It would be great if, once a month, students could bring in a snack to share. Packaged snacks (crackers, pretzels, etc.) are easy to store. We would like to discourage sending in sugary treats.

Morning Routines and Work

Each morning as the children arrive, they will begin building their self-esteem and sense of responsibility as they learn to take care of morning routines and prepare themselves for a successful day. On the first day we, established morning routine procedures for your child to follow. During this time your child will take care of placing parent notes, homework, and daily communicators in the appropriate areas. They will also make their lunch choices, take lunch money to the cafeteria, get a drink, and use the restroom. Once they have completed all tasks, they will begin morning math.

Daily Folders & Completed Work

Your child will bring home a folder which will serve as our daily communicator. It is important that this folder returns to school with your child each day. All completed work will be sent home in this folder. The weekly newsletter and homework will go home in the Friday Folder at the end of each week. It is important that you sign and return the Friday Folder to school every Monday.

Birthdays

We know that birthdays are a very special time for children. You are more than welcome to send in or bring in cupcakes or another treat for the birthday girl or boy. Please send us a note at least the day before to let us know that you are planning this special treat. Thanks for your cooperation!

Lunch Money

The lunchroom handles all lunch charges, payments, and questions. You may pay daily, weekly, or monthly. All lunch money should be sent in a clearly marked envelope with your child's name and lunch number. As you send in lunch money with your child, he or she will be sent to the cafeteria to have the money placed in their account. Please send lunch money and ice cream money separately. If your child doesn't know his or her lunch number, it is important to practice this at home. The number will be the same throughout their school experience here at Pine Valley Elementary.

Parent-Teacher Communication

We believe that good parent-teacher relationships are very important for your child's school success. Please feel free to send a note, email, or call if you have any questions or concerns. The best way to contact us is through our email system.
