The Hillsborough Running Club announces the 9th annual:

Got Grit? 5K & One Mile Fun Run/Walk

June 2, 2018 at Orange High School in Hillsborough, North Carolina

General Information: This year’s event will be known at the Got Grit? 5K Triple Play.

1. Join us for this great family event. Endurance Magazine recently selected this race as one of the best “kid-friendly races” in the Triangle. There will be a 5K race with chip-timing on a certified course. Also planned are a One Mile Fun Run/Walk and a Toddler Trot for the little runners. All participants in the one mile event receive medals. After the race visit our remarkable refreshment table. We’ll have fruit, cookies, snacks, candy, granola bars and fantastic baked goods. After the award ceremony there will be a drawing for prizes. Child care will be provided while parents run the 5k. The race will be held, rain or shine. No refunds. Part of the profits from this event goes for grit awards, special recognitions, and mini-scholarships for Orange County students. Register by May 16 to be guaranteed a beautiful t-shirt,

2. Run for Thys: Last fall Orange High School football player Thys Oldenburg suffered a severe head injury that nearly took his life. Presently he is slowly recovering. Thys will be at the race. He may walk, run, or shoot the starting gun! A minimum of $1,000 from this race will be donated, in Thys’s name, to the Ronald McDonald House, which helped to support Thys and his parents during his recovery at Duke Medical Center. Also, participants can donate an added amount for Thys’s donation on the registration form or on-line. Let’s see if we can hit the $2,000 mark!

*Runners will receive a souvenir race bib with Thys’s name and his football uniform number: 22.

3. 50,000 Miles for the Animal Shelter: This spring race director, Tom Carr will hit the 50,000 mile career mark in running. To celebrate this accomplishment, Tom is asking that on race day participants bring bags/cans of dog or cat food to be donated to the Orange County Animal Shelter.
