OLD BUSINESS
Arbor Day Celebration April 27th: Catherine Turcich reported the following updates for the Arbor Day Celebration. Betty Brookes will be maintaining records of all donations received for Arbor Day. Betty will be mailing the donation letter and form this week. Catherine will solicit help from other Commissioners to follow-up with these letters once they are mailed. Catherine said there will be a fundraiser on March 22, 2012 at Treno’s to raise money for Arbor Day. A percentage of the proceeds will go to Arbor Day Celebration. The Township has an existing account where the monies from fundraising will be deposited. Bid is donating water, fruit, bagels, coffee etc. for the event.
Bob has received commitments from the High School Jazz Band and Chorus to perform at the event. In addition, Catherine said that the Master Gardner’s are coming to the ceremony to help. Ninety-five (95) students will be coming from the Haddon Township Middle School to help plant trees. Bob volunteered to help administer the planting contract for any trees/money collected for the fundraiser.
Alec McCartney said he would meet with Catherine on Saturday to review the last of the planting locations for Arbor Day.
We agreed on a goal of 150 trees for Arbor Day. Approximately 100 of these trees will be provided by the State and the other 50 we will try to get through donations. Within one week or so, the State will give us a final number on how many trees they will provide for the event.
NEW BUSINESS
110 Holly Avenue: There was a motion to trim the bottom six (6) branches on the tree at 110 Holly Avenue. The Commission voted unanimously to carry out the original recommendation made by Commission Maley to thin the crown, reduce end weight by removing the bottom 5 limbs on the house side to balance weight. Commission Maley continues to monitor the lean on the tree with the lean measuring device. So far, he has not detected any significant movement in the tree but will continue to monitor. Commissioner Herbstritt made the motion and Commission Nystedt seconded. Vote was unanimous.
ADJOURNMENT
Catherine motioned to adjourn. Derrick seconded. Meeting adjourned.
