Dear Applicant

The 100 Black Men of America, (BMOA) Inc. Greater Huntsville Chapter (GHC) is pleased to announce its 2016 Scholarship Program The 100 BMOA GHC is committed to the growth and development of America’s youth. In addition to engaging in mentoring, education, health & wellness and economic development programs, we feel it is important to aid in developing talented young Americans in pursuit of higher education.Through gifts provided by our corporate sponsors, the 100 BMOA GHC, Inc. is able to provide scholarships to deserving high school students. Scholarships will be awarded to selected graduating high school seniors who have demonstrated academic excellence and community involvement as they pursue a goal of higher education

The 100 BMOA GHC Scholarship awards are available to graduating high school seniors who maintain at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average on a 4.0 point system. Scholarships are provided to individuals on an equal opportunity basis regardless ofrace, sex, creed, or religious preference. The scholarship program is for freshman entering an accredited two or four-year college or university as a full time student.

Complete scholarships applications must be postmarked or received in the 100 BMOA GHC’s Business Office no later than midnight on March 1, 2016. Notification of awards will be sent by April 1, 2016. Award letters will be sent to selected applicants only. 100 BMOA GHC scholarship winners m ay request presentation of their scholarship award at their high school awards program by a member of the 100 BMOA GHC. Scholarship winners, their family and friends will be honored at a 100 BMOA GHC Scholarship Awards Ceremony on April 24, 2016.

Application packages must be mailed in their entirety from the high school Counselor’s Office. Incomplete applications will not be considered. Facsimiles will not be accepted; however the application may be copied.

Scholarship Criteria

Applicants:

The criteria for selecting recipients for 100 BMOA GHC Scholarship awarded to freshmen entering an accredited two or four-year College or university or technical school as a full time student.

1)The applicant must be a US citizen residing in the Greater Huntsville area, consisting of Huntsville, Madison and Madison County; Athens and Limestone County; Decatur and Morgan County.

2)The applicant must complete all parts of the application and ensure that all materials supporting his/her application are included (recommendation letters and transcripts must be enclosed in separate, sealed envelopes) and mailed to the 100 BMOA GHC, at the address below by midnight March 1, 2016.

3)Applicants must have no less than a 2.5 cumulativeGrade Point Average upon graduation in order to qualify for a scholarship award (official copy of high school transcript is required).

4)In order to be complete, the application package must include:

  • Scholarship application (completely filled out)
  • Essay (300 word minimum) which will include the following

oA brief biography

oWhy you wish to attend college

oHow this scholarship will assist in your future goals and career objectives

  • Official copy of student’s transcript reflecting quarterly or semester grade point averages
  • Copy of SAT or ACT scores.
  • Counselor’s Report
  • Three letters of recommendation; (1) letter from Guidance Counselor (in addition to the counselor’s report), and two others

5)Immediate family members of the 100 Black Men of America, Greater Huntsville Chapter are not eligible to participate.

6)All of the items outlined above must be mailed together (in one package) to the Scholarship Committee. The package must be mailed or postmarked so that it is received in our business office, at the address below bymidnight March 1, 2016.

1) All blanks must be filled in. If information is non-applicable, please write N/A in the blank

2) Application must be signed and dated.

3) Information must be complete and accurate.

4) Applicants should be prepared to verify family income and other financial aid upon request.

5) Applicants must provide three letters of recommendation with one letter provided by your school counselor. All recommendation

letters must be enclosed in their original sealed envelope in the scholarship application package. All completed packages must be postmarked or hand-delivered to the 100 BMOA GHC office by midnight March 1, 2016
