a Global Call To Action on Dec. 21, 2012

Classical Singer Shyla Nelson Travels to Sydney to Spread the Word about Global Moment of Song

Washington, D.C. (Oct. 29, 2012) – The Good Earth Singers, an organization dedicated to building community through song, has announced its latest global campaign One Earth. One Voice. The goal of the campaign, led by classical singer Shyla Nelson, is to rally 15 million people worldwide to sing a Nigerian song, “Ise Oluwa,” for an unprecedented global event on Dec. 21, 2012. Nelson will be in Sydney from Nov. 10-19, 2012 to spread the word about One Earth. One Voice. and to encourage people everywhere to participate in the global choir to support the earth and humanity’s survival from world violence.

Everyone is invited to meet Nelson and learn about her journey when she joins Rev. Dr. Stephanie Dowrick's special interfaith service at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 18 in the Uniting Church at 264 Pitt Street, Sydney. At the end of the service, Nelson and the congregation will walk to the Royal Botanic Gardens, near the Sydney Opera House, to sing “Ise Oluwa,” to practice for the global moment of song on Dec. 21, 2012. Sydney is just one stop on Nelson’s 99-day journey leading up to Dec. 21. Through her travels, Nelson has generated widespread international support of One Earth. One Voice. in more than 35 countries, and among world-renowned musicians, scientists, environmentalists and world leaders.

“One Earth. One Voice. is an accumulation of hard work and a genuine belief that the power of the human voice is a catalyst for healing humanity’s relationship with the earth,” Nelson said. “The unifying power of song will be a rallying call to action in response to crises and violence across the globe that threatens our lives.”

Anyone can add their voice to the global event and learn the Nigerian song, “Ise Oluwa” on Dec. 21, 2012 by downloading the free smartphone app, “Sing!”. The singing event will also be broadcast online at oneearth-onevoice.org.
