DEPARTMENT:Children’s ProgramREPORTS TO: Director of Child Development Programs

SUMMARY OF FUNCTIONS: The InstructionalCoordinator is responsible for the day-to-day supervision and management of classroom curriculum, environment, and Teaching Strategies Gold, in an inclusive classroom setting. The Instructional Coordinator will be a part of an Inclusion Team, serving children with an identified special need. Major functions include supervising a developmentally appropriate classroom curriculum and environment for infants, toddlers, preschool, and pre-kindergarten in accordance with the policies and philosophy of the Center. The Instructional Coordinator will work closely with the Director of Child Development Programs and Assistant Director in the management of Center operations, implementation of the Child Development Center’s policies and procedures, development and training of staff, and all other Center activities.

TheInstructional Coordinator represents a first‐ level leadership and management opportunity within the Child Development Program. The Instructional Coordinator must not only be committed to his/her own achievement and continuous learning, but that of the other as well.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide curriculum orientation and training to new teachers
  • Provide curriculum and Teaching Strategies Gold orientation to parents
  • Ensure that all classrooms offer a developmentally appropriate early learning environment that addresses all areas of the curriculum in accordance with Bright from the Start: Department of Early Care and Learning and the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC)
  • Review all lesson plans, providing feedback to teachers as necessary, and approve lesson plans weekly, including the implementation of differentiated instruction techniques
  • Serve as Pre-K site director
  • Observe in classrooms and provide technical support, to ensure that lesson plans are being implemented with integrity and the classroom environment reflects the lesson plan and supports optimal implementation of the Creative Curriculum (GELDS in Georgia Pre-K)
  • Monitor TSG documentation notes, and provide teachers with feedback as necessary to ensure that accurate, effective notes are taken
  • Review and approve classroom newsletters
  • Participate in IEP, and IFSP,and Inclusion Services team meetings
  • Facilitate 4 annual conferences with parents, teachers and therapists, for all families receiving inclusion services
  • Confer with inclusion consultant, teachers and parents and make appropriate referrals when previously undiagnosed developmental delays are identified in children
  • Serve as a liaison between the school’s leadership team and teachers, as it relates to curriculum, planning and documentation
  • Communicate effectively and professionally with co-workers
  • Adhere to all policies and procedures as described in the Teacher Handbook
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS

Reports to and is under the direct supervision of the Director of Child Development Programs. Works closely with Assistant Director and additional ancillary personnel as appropriate.

EXPERIENCE AND/OR EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

•Strong oral and written communication skills

•Strong knowledge of DECAL regulations and NAEYC accreditation standards

•Strong knowledge of developmentally appropriate practice for children 6 weeks to 5 years’ old

•Experience in Early Intervention, Inclusion or Special Education

•In depth knowledge of Creative Curriculum and GELDS

•Demonstrated ability to facilitate child and adult learning

•Ability to interact with and manage a variety of personalities

•Ability to multi-task effectively

•Demonstrated professionalism and strong work ethics

•Proficient with Microsoft products (Word, Outlook, Power Point, Excel)

•MA/BA in Early Childhood Education or related field, 2 years’ experience in a NAEYC accredited program, and 2 years supervisory experience.
