The following ideas are ways in which you can help your child at home. Please note that we are not expecting you to carry out all the suggestions listed, but any support you can offer is appreciated.

  • Visit your local library to borrow books about people who help us.
  • Make a collage of pictures and objects that begin/end with the same letter sound (use an Argos catalogue!).
  • Share books and spot familiar words in the text together.
  • Encourage simple, practical addition e.g. how many sweets are there if we put them all together?
  • Make name labels for everyone in the family.
  • Write (mark making is fine) shopping lists and notes to family members.
  • Let your child practise fastening their coat zip.
  • Find toys and objects in your house which need a push, pull or both to make them work.
  • Let your child pay for items at the shop with cash.
  • Do some coin rubbings together. What numbers are on the coins?
  • Paint pictures together of emergency vehicles. Talk about the different parts of the vehicles.
  • Cook some simple recipes. Weigh the ingredients together.
