A framework for innovative thinking and dialogue about issues of equity, diversity and inclusion and their interconnectedness to global citizenship will be discussed based on West Valley College data.

11:05-12:00: Breakouts Sessions Follow Up
Utilizing the data presented, faculty and staff will have an opportunity to:
  • Brainstorm effective strategies to
  • Recognize current individual and area-specific activities that promote equity and global citizenship
  • Address college data findings
  • Identify future steps to further promote student equity, success and global citizenship
  • Produce tangible outcomes
  • Individual outcome: 1-2 tangible equity strategies individuals can implement in their respective areas in 2011-12
  • College outcomes: produce a set of guiding strategies for SEAS to use in implementing follow-up steps in 2011-12

Strategies for Survival
John Chew and Police Chief Chris Rolen / Prepare yourself for the unthinkable because the more you know, the better you can respond. This workshop is a 2-part series including Rapid Medical Assistance where you'll learn simple techniques to provide life saving assistance during events that involve multiple injuries such as active shooter, earthquakes and car accidents and a Shooter on Campus Video followed by a discussion of potential active shooter and hostage situation scenarios and common sense strategies for survival and prevention. - Presented by John Chew and Police Chief Chris Rolen / Fox 120
Creating Positive Relationships, Handling Difficult Situations
Sarah Caravalho Khan and Claremont EAP / Working with a range of personalities and work styles can be challenging. If employees can identify and adapt to various styles, they will be better equipped to overcome conflicts when they arise. This workshop focuses on reducing friction and resolving conflict in the workplace.
