1 Purpose

To provide a basic level of technical support in the design workshops, during out of hours operation and to ensure a safe working environment for users.

2 Duties and Responsibilities

2.1 Provide basic technical support for other students using the various workshops across the Parkside building

2.2 To ensure that students are using the workshops in a manner that is conducive to and in adherence to all relevant health and safety procedures and guidelines

2.3 Ensure that students finish working in good time prior to the building closing

2.4 Ensure that students clean up their working area prior to leaving the workshops

2.5 To assist the workshop technicians in keeping the workshops clean and tidy

2.6 Informing security immediately in the event of an accident or injury

2.7 In the event of an accident, inform the workshop technician with all the details of the incident as soon as possible in order for them to complete a report

The post holder reports directly to the Director of Resources

6 Essential Requirements of the post holder

Basic technical skills in at least 2 of the following: Woodworking/Metal working, Ceramics and glass, photography and video, traditional print, animation, theatre design, fashion and textiles, silk screen printing and general computer skills

The above duties may be altered to suit the future needs of the service. The post holder may therefore be required to serve at any of the University’s places of employment as may be required.

Hours of Work

Monday – Thursday 17.00 – 22:00

Friday 16.00 – 19.00

Saturday 10.00 – 16.00

·  Approximately 12 hours work per week, working a rota with other students

·  Some weekend work will be required
