The embroidery needle which didn’t want to sew any more
The story which led to a pioneering invention
»Come on, you can’t do that!«, embroiderer Pino said to his favourite embroidery needle Veni, »you have to go back into the machine and to continue sewing«. »No, I don’t want to«, Veni answered. »Embroidery is boring. I don’t feel like doing it any more, there must be something else for me to do somehow«. Embroiderer Pino couldn’t understand the world any more. What’s got into it? Why didn’t Veni want to embroider any more? Embroidery, the most beautiful thing on the planet, and now the little embroidery needle started to make trouble.
Pino shook his head. What else could an embroidery needle do than to embroider? He shrugged his shoulders, he just couldn’t think of anything. »I’ll have a look in the design catalogues; maybe I can find something to inspire me « he said to himself and went into his studio. Nothing but designs, embroideries after embroideries, he looked at everything. When getting to eyelet embroideries, bore designs and ajour embroideries, Pino began to brood. This could be the solution! He jumped up and went to see Veni. »Veni, your point will become a knife and you are going to cut holes «. Veni was immediately thrilled by its new task. »That’s great, cutting is certainly a lot of fun«, it said. »But please, Pino, do not call me Veni any longer. Now I am grown-up, from now on my name shall be VENERE!«
VENERE – the cutting needle
No, actually, you have not read a fairy tale, the embroiderer Pino really exists! His name is Pino Piantadosi, he is Italian and he really loves embroidering. He is the general manager of the firm of Venere and really invented the cutting needle VENERE. And we think it is a great invention, for at last embroiderers may create absolutely new, different, and unique embroideries using VENERE. The set consists of four cutting needles made of steel which are installed in the embroidery head at another angle each with the help of a device. Afterwards, any shape at all can be cut on the embroidery machine – even designs which have hardly been feasible so far. VENERE replaces the boring device and beside eyelet embroideries, it is also ideal for cutting appliqués, emblems, and much more …
Working
Handling is quite simple. It does not take a day to get familiar with the correct handling. Once learnt the handling, it is always the same. VENERE is a very good cutting method and in addition it is favourably priced; for most embroiderers the purchasing price pays for itself after a short time. For those who have to cut most different shapes, it is also of advantage to have the specific VENERE punching software. The embroidery programme for »pre-cutting« can however also be programmed manually. When using embroidery needles it is important to turn off the thread-control during cutting and to reduce the embroidery speed down to 600 to 800 revolutions.
The workshop
For those embroiderers who are interested in trying out something new using VENERE and who rather prefer to learn the handling in a group instead of doing it on their own embroidery machine, GUNOLD offers another two workshops titled »VENERE« in September 2006 in Cologne. The participants will create eyelet embroideries, such as e.g. collars of ladies’ blouses, neck openings, handkerchiefs, or jeans. Furthermore, cutting appliqués will be practised. Perfect logos, neatly cut with VENERE without any fringes and this in two steps: first of all cut the appliqué, and then embroider the appliqué design. It is so easy and convincing that it is perfectly obvious for every embroiderer to equip his embroidery machine in his embroidery studio with VENERE. Thus it is definitely possible to work more flexibly and to realise very special embroidery designs. Further information including the workshop dates can be found at www.gunold.de
