School / Good work + energy put into performances.
Short “i” sound was mispronounced often.
Don’t speak too quickly, as it makes it difficult to hear your meaning clearly.
Don’t use music while you are speaking, it is distracting + makes it hard to hear you.
Using gestures is good, but make sure they are used in a way that is related to what you are saying; some gestures seemed out of place, and were confusing.
Great teamwork! I can tell the students worked hard to prepare for today! Good job!
A tie was given for the senior high school category because we thought that group #1 did a good job, but lacked some creativity; they were well organized but didn’t tell a clear story. Group #2 on the other hand told a story clearly, but they didn’t illustrate great teamwork. Overall both teams had strengths and weakness and we couldn’t choose between tem, so a tie was given. Group 3 and Group 4 did well, but they didn’t seem like reader theater; rather they seemed like a drama.
Junior High
School / Good teamwork + creative stories.
Don’t say “bow”, it is distracting; just bow together.
Introduction was very exaggerated at times. Having lots of energy is good, but it must be used in the correct context.
Remember this is “Reader Theater” not a drama/ play; at times there was too much acting/ movement.
Speak closer to the microphone; it was hard to hear some students.
Short “i” sound was mispronounced often.
Don’t say “Thank you for your listening.”
Students did a great job and were well prepared. Keep up the good work!

School / Remember not to end all sentences with an increasing intonation (souds like a question).
Short vowelsounds are important.
hit ≠ heat, sit ≠ seat … etc.
For RT, less emphasis on acting and more on the actual storytelling.
Scripts were interesting and creative –good!
Use songs only when needed.
Emphasize ending sounds “th”, “t”, “d” etc to make pronunciation clearer.
Overall, impressive! Good work everyone!
Tie was given because of inconsistent RT but excellent English, and excelled RT but English with imperfections. Both groups deserve #1 ranking, but for different qualities of their performances.
Junior High
School / Speak slower, especially for longer sentences. This will make your meaning clearer.
Most students were enthusiastic … good! Remember to make voice enthusiastic.
Make sure all voices are loud enough; speak louder than you think you need to.
Scripts were creative- good!
“Thank you for your listening.”
Hard ending sounds are very important (D/T/K/…). Stress these sounds.
I was impressed, keep up the goodwork. All students worked really hard.

School / Comments:
Very interesting selection and presentations- keep making daring, bold choices!
Appropriate movements and gestures!
Keep up the great work with vocal expression!
Suggestions:
Rely on vocal expression and English fluency to convey story as opposed to movement/ gesture/ acting.
Follow through on word pronunciation- sometimes unclear.
Strive for rhythmic fluency. Lines= staccato at times
*The judges decides to award a tie for the following reasons:
One performance was very much in the traditional RT style, yet lacked the creative edge of the other performance. The judges recognize this is the traditional RT standard and, as such, felt the first performance excelled at this while the second performance was more creative. Both are deemed important.
Junior High
School / Comments:
Very entertaining selections representing a wide variety of genres. I encourage you to keep making dancing, bold choices.
Overall, appropriate use of gesture and movement. Choices added to meaning and presentation instead of deter.
Keep up the great work!
Suggestions:
Follow through on word pronunciations- don’t drop the endings!
The “th” sound is always difficult= practice, practice, practice!
Strive for rhythmic fluency.

School / First year, some performances were like plays/ drama and not RT. Very entertaining bot not RT. Gesture, props costume are all important parts of RT but remember it is still reading!
Students should be provided the elements of RT before hand. It is NOT a radio broadcast with no facial expressions or gestures but it is reading with accuracy and fluency (voice tone, expression) a performance.
The Senior High School competition had a tie between the 1st and 2nd performance because while the first performance was RT style they didn’t have a cohesive story instead of lines related to one topic (resolution). The 2nd performance had a story but they also had a narrator who only speaks a few lines and the performance was a little more drama style. The 3rd performance was highly entertaining but more drama style. The 4th performance was drama/ a play and not RT.
Junior High
School / It is not American style but in Taiwan and Taiwanese judges / organizer competition like students to use chorus response/ parts. This should be made clear to students/ teachers so there is no confusion.
RT is a performance more than isn’t read-aloud so remember to interact cast-males, gestures, and use correct facial expressions and tone of voice. AS a judge i felt very rushed to give a winner. The % point breakdown seems arbitrary.

Junior High
School / 劇本改編很好,但要注意表演的適切度,有的時候太複雜反成了絆腳石。
其實如高中組。
