Post title: / Assistant Catering Manager /Cook
Purpose: / To support the Catering Manager in developing and delivering a food provision for students and staff in compliance with ‘The Food Plan’ standards
Responsible to: / The Catering Manager
Working time: / 44.6 Weeks including holidays and five additional cleaning days – Monday to Friday – 6.30 am to 2.00 pm - 35 hours per week, which includes a 30 min unpaid break per day
Main duties /
  • To assist the Catering Manager with Menu Planning, Budgetary control, Stock management and order placement
  • To maintain kitchen Health and Hygiene regulations
  • To assist in planning, control and directing the production and service of school meals, to help develop a cycle of menus, catering for all dietary requirements
  • To undertake the responsibilities of the Catering Manager in her absence
  • To support the aims of the school, ensuring that the philosophy of inclusion continues to be the experience of the pupils
  • To assist in undertaking day-to-day operation of the catering provision, including effective deployment of staff under the guidance of the Catering Manager
  • To liaise with the Catering Manager to ensure that the catering operation is in line with the nutritional legalisation and the standards outlined within ‘The School Food Plan’.
  • To supervise the management of the maintenanceof accurate stock records for all provisions, light and heavy equipment.This will include using stock rotation and stock control
  • To operate the tills during service in an honest fashion in line with school directives and probity
  • To assist in ensuring cleaning on a daily basis in all catering areas is to standards laid down by the school
  • To help prepare the dining area to include moving and setting up tables and chairs and setting trolleys
  • To prepare the service area, hot and cold cupboards and other equipment in the dining area to ensure food is served efficiently and in a hygienic environment
  • To continue personal professional development, researching, requesting, and undertaking relevant training
  • To undertake performance management reviews, acting as a reviewer for line managed staff in the catering team and identify training needs
  • To undertake any other duties that may be required for the effective operation of the catering establishment or tasks commensurate with the job grade
  • To follow the School’s Child Protection and Safeguarding procedures.
  • In addition to the duties outlined above, all employees are required to take care of their own and other people’s health and safety
  • Keep an up to date knowledge of developments and legislation that impact on the catering operation, identifying training needs for self and other line managed staff
  • Employees are expected to be courteous to colleagues and provide a welcoming environment to all who may visit or contact us through school
