2014TRACK AND FIELD CHAMPIONSHIPS SUMMARY
May 17/18th, 2014 Yeovil Arena
This was one of the two weekends ‘imposed’ on the County AA by EA.
As it appeared that the event would not be licensed on any other weekend, the County AA agreed that it would be held on this assigned date.
This choice avoided the school half term but clashed with a major schools event at Millfield and a Mens’ Southern League match at Yeovil.
YOAC kindly agreed to accommodate the County AA on the Saturday morning, the SML match following immediately after.
For the fourthsuccessive year the championship offered events for athletes with a disability and there was a large increase in entries in that category.
The County AA was pleased to accept guest athletes with a disability from outside the County.
My thanks to all officials involved.
The photofinish system detected all starts.
This year, certificates were awarded on the dayand my thanks to Brian Baker for his help with this.
Despite the small number of entries, a number of CBP performances were achieved:

Overall entries were 209 athletes - slightly more than in 2013.
There were no direct school entries from Millfield Prep,Millfield School, Kings Taunton, West Somerset Community Collegeand Wellington School.
The number of entries increased from Brymore Academy, Downside School and Queens, Taunton.
As expected, the drastic reduction of entries from schools affected the championships.
There were no heats in any events.
Revenue was inevitably reduced (treasurer to give details at the July committee).
For the Championship secretary, there were no economies of scale and the actual work constructing the championship was barely reduced.
Also, our fixed costs were similar to previous years –these fixed costs included medals, track hire, first aid etc.
For this championship the Red Cross organisation again proved to be prohibitively expensive and we arranged cover through an alternative provider. However, this provider was more expensive than in 2013.
This year, unlike the previous two years, the County did NOT receive any subsidy from UKA in recognition of our contribution to the provision of events for athletes with a disability.
An application for a grant was made (submitted late) – DC has not yet received notification as to whether this application has been successful.
A 5000 metres event was re-introduced in 2013 but the number of entries was again disappointing.
Officials’ lunches were supplied by YOAC.
