The chair convened the meeting at 16:07
The announced agenda for the meeting was to consider the following documents in order:
- 11-04/1175r7 “IEEE 802.11 TGs Comparison Categories and Informative Checklists”
- 11-05/1586r1 “SAP Interfaces to Enable Layer 3 Routing Protocols in Mesh Networks”
- 11-05/1587r1 “Alternatives on 802.11s Proposals Presentation Procedure and Voting Process”
- 11-04/662r13 “Usage Models”
- 11-04/1543r2 “Informative Reference Bibliography for 802.11s”
- 11-04/968r6 “Issues for Mesh Media Access Coordination Component in 11s”
There being no objection, it was decided to follow that agenda.
- Steve Conner reviewed documents 11-04/1174 and 1175.
11-04/1175 “IEEE 802.11 TGs Comparison Categories and Informative Checklists”
has been updated to ensure that the templates in 1175 are aligned with latest from 11-04/1174 “IEEE 802.11 TGs Functional Requirements and Scope”.
Reviewed previous discussions on purpose of document - intent is to be a checklist, not exact evaluation criteria.
New addition to Section 1.1 highlighting importance of Section 4 [should read 3] as minimum functional requirements the 802.11s amendment must cover. Sections 5 and 6 [should read 4 and 5] are possible items, but not minimal requirements, also highlighted Section 3 and 4 must be filled in for all proposals. Section 7 should read 6.
New addition to Section 4 - Informative only
Section 5 - added Military UM
Question about “Proposal should provide evidence” - proposed change to “It is desirable…” agreed
Section 6 - only update para 2 - template may be filled in
Question on how to decide if proposal was a full proposal. Chair indicated intent was self -declaration.
Question on clarification of Mesh Point vs Mesh AP. Noticed that 11-04/1175 needs updating to use conventions used in 1174. Mesh AP is a subset of Mesh Point. Mesh Points that are not APs don’t associate with terminals. Suggested wording still needs clarification, to be discussed at Monterey meeting.
Steve will update11-04/ 1175 with comments above.
2. Malik Audeh reviewed document 11-05/1586 “SAP Interfaces to Enable Layer 3 Routing Protocols in Mesh Networks”
Proposal about Section 4.1 of 11-04/1174 “SAP interfaces to provide support to enable Layer-3 routing protocols” should be renamed to “SAP interfaces and management primitives to provide support to enable Layer-3 routing protocols” and moved to In Scope.
Some discussion ensued. Suggested taking out “to enable”. Suggested “support for higher layer protocols”. To be discussed in Monterey.
3. DJ Shyy presented document 11-05/1587“Alternatives on 802.11s Proposals Presentation Procedure and Voting Process”, proposed changes to 11-04/1430 and 11/04-1539
Suggested Alternative 2 on Presentation Procedures, document 11-04/1430
Also suggested changes to Voting Process in July
Chair agreed to Alternative 2 addition to document 11-04/1430 which presently has the equivalent of Alternatives 1 and 3 from document 11-05/1587
Chair, when asked why document 11-04/1430 does not reference document 11-04/1539, pointed out that document 1430 is currently much more polished than the more recent document 1539.
Chair suggested waiting on Voting Process until we know the kind of proposals we have. Perhaps January or March. Latest time to close on process would be in May.
Other comments - How can you require proposals to be merged? What if they are incompatible?
4. Steve Conner reviewed document 11-04/662 “Usage Models”
Key changes…
Updated contributing author list. Added strawpoll results for adding military usage case. Minor editorial updates to improve document format -removed simulation section and other historical sections.
Comment on column with use case numbers in Table 2, agreed to remove
5. Steve Conner reviewed document 11-04/1543 “Informative Reference Bibliography for 802.11s”
Useful suggested reference material, including live network measurement
Suggestion to add internal IEEE material - Chair maintains list of all Meeting Minutes, which could be used to generate this.
Question about providing softcopy of documents. Agreed to add url to any that are easily found.
TGs members are requested to send to Steve Conner suggestions for entries to add to this document.
This call having gone on for about 90 minutes, the chair suggested moving the last item to next weeks call on 12 January. There was no objection.
Chair quickly reviewed the tentative agenda for next call;
- 11-04/968r6 “Issues for Mesh Media Access Coordination Component in 11s”
- 11-04/1430 “Call for Proposals”
- UCLA presentation
- 11-04/1544 “January 2005 Mesh Agenda”
There were no objections.
Chair adjourned the call at 17:36
