Afton Thatch Lodge

The Causeway, Old Freshwater, Isle of Wight

Afton Thatch Lodge is a small, detached thatched cottage located at the head of the River Yar, which extends from Yarmouth Harbour, one of England’s most unspoilt seaside villages. In an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, the Lodge has recently been restored to a high standard. Tasteful and yet understated, this lovely cottage features antiques and handmade curtains.

With river views on one side and open fields on the other, the Lodge is in a tranquil location and is within walking distance to the village of Old Freshwater with its pub, the Red Lion.

The Lodge is in the grounds of Afton Thatch, a large thatched cottage built in 1697. Accessed through a shared drive, yet separated by hedging, Afton Thatch Lodge has its own garden reached through three french doors facing east toward the downs and the sunrise.

From the Lodge, one can walk to Afton and Tennyson downs. Compton Bay, a beautiful National Trust beach, is a short drive or bicycle ride away.
