Howapplications are displayed on the Victorian Housing Register

Name of document1

The Victorian Housing Register (the register) displays applications based on the relative need of each household. The two criteria that are used are:

•The category of the application, based on highest need category to lowest need category.

•The effective date of the application, which is displayed on the register, in order from the earliest effective date to most recent effective date.

On that basis applications in the register are displayed as follows:

  1. Emergency Management: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  2. Priority Transfers: all approved applications in order of earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  3. Homeless with Support: all approved applications in order of earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  4. Temporary Absence: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  5. Supported Housing: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  6. Special Housing Need: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  7. Register of Interest: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.
  8. Register of Interest – Affordability: all approved applications in order from earliest effective date to most recent effective date.

When a particular location has a vacant property, the register filters to a subset of suitable applications that have nominated that specific location, and matches the household size and type of property.

In terms of effective dates, there are three types of effective dates that can be applied.

  1. Where there are support and housing needs that require an integrated assessment, this is the date that the integrated assessment was undertaken, provided it is within six months of application being submitted.
  2. Where the client is part of an approved Housing First initiative, it is the date that the client’s episode of homelessness occurred.
  3. For all other applications, it is the date that all information needed to determine eligibility is received by the Department of Health and Human Services/community housing organisation.
