The Bourne Academy- Job Description

Title of Post: MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONSOFFICER

Salary: Grade 4 -£17,491-£19,430

Hours: 52 weeks a year (+ holidays)

Line Management Responsibility: None

Main Purpose: To communicate and celebrate the work, news and successes of the Academy internally and externally, locally and nationally. To build reputation - to ensure the Academy is full and that it is the first choice for all eligible families.

To ensure that parents/carers have up to date information about their child and about The Academy. To be proactive in giving the right messages out about the Academy in a variety of contexts and in an ongoing, regular manner.

You will have access to confidential information, requiring absolute discretion at all times.The Bourne Academy is a busy place of learning and work and therefore the ability to organize and prioritise tasks is a key requirement. You must also enjoy working with young people, be willing to work late when required on events and be prepared to model the ethos of the Academy.

Key Accountabilities:

Marketing & Communications / Literature/Resources
  • Design and update any Academy marketing resources for the whole Academy and for any individual department/project needs – adverts, prospectuses, inserts, newsletters, brochures, web based material, posters, banners, etc.
  • Ensure all Academy photography is taken, documented and maintained (including at events which have been diarised in advance)
  • Maintain and develop the termly Academy Newsletter
  • Maintain and promote the Academy calendar, giving timely reminders of events to staff, parents etc
  • Maintain, regularly update and develop the Academy website, in line with Ofsted guidance.
  • Maintain and update the Academy social media daily/weekly as required
Media
  • Build the relationship with local media and coordinate press releases as required
  • Promote the Academy and 6th Form in the media, ensuring all marketing communications give a consistent and positive message
Stakeholders
  • Maintain and grow a database of all key stakeholders
  • Liaise with media companies, photographers and printers
  • Be a friendly face to all staff ensuring all Academy news comes to you
  • Write a monthly news email to parents/carers/staff
  • Ensure internal communications are regular and positive
  • Liaise with Parents/Carers by text and email
  • Ensure surveys are conducted, processed and circulated as necessary.
  • Promote and maintain links with targeted Academy partners, including Canford Schooland other stakeholders, including the wider community and neighbouring schools, ensuring that the Academy is at the heart of the community
  • Help to develop and sustain two way dialogue with parents and carers about learning and student welfare
  • Help to enhance strong links with local, national and global business and education providers to support and develop opportunities for the Academy
  • Work with public and voluntary sector agencies, clubs and societies in local community to develop opportunities for wider student learning and extended services to enable the wider community to appreciate the Academy’s ethos and achievements
Events
  • In conjunction with relevant staff members ensure Event Sheets are completed and distributed to relevant parties involved –and update website/screen dates & news
  • In conjunction with relevant staff and students, be responsible in coordinating celebration, careers and student recruitment events.
  • Be responsible for organizing and marketingAcademy Open Days
  • Coordinate Academy tours for new admissions and potential parents/carers, students and visitors, ensure data is kept and analysed.
  • Be responsible for Academy representation at external marketing events

Special Projects /
  • Support and develop Alumni Association – aiming to double membership each year. Write and follow a strategy.
  • Support staff with the Yr 7 primary transition processes through marketing and communications with the students and parents/carers and give a positive image of the Academy as required (liaise with primary schools)
  • Support and promote the Parent Voice Team as required - providing display materials, promotional resources, assistance at events and help with planning/marketing
  • Charity Work - develop official partnership with Kenya’s Osiligi Obaya Primary School, and work on planning/running events fundraising for other local/national charities as required.
  • Develop and promote Community Lettingsto help achieve annual target

Holiday Tasks /
  • Assistance with archiving, data quality and data storage
  • Assistance with marketing of site for community lettings, plus, assisting with the coordination of community lettings enquiries
  • Acting as a summer contact point for Year 7 Transitioning families, from primary schools, before September term starts

General Responsibilities /
  • As a team player, provide cover as required for all administrative roles within the Academy
  • Support the Business Director as required
  • Provide a courteous reception to staff, young people and visitors
  • Attend meetings as and when required
  • Liaise and exchange best practice with other school marketing managers
  • Play a full part in the life of the Academy community to support its ethos and policies and to encourage and ensure staff and students follow your example
  • Comply with the Academy’s Health and Safety policy and undertake risk assessments as appropriate
  • Liaise with all members of the Academy
  • Undertake any other duty as specified by the Principal
  • Be committed to your own professional learning and undertake relevant training as required to support the functions of the post to enhance personal development
  • Support the Academy to recruit high quality applicants to all staff vacancies

Safeguarding /
  • Undertake regular safeguarding training as required
  • Ensure that statutory and Ofsted requirements for Safeguarding are met
  • Liaise with appropriate bodies re safeguarding requirements for data and other Academy communications, both written and web-based

First Aid /
  • Act as the Deputy First Aider fulfilling first aid duties as required
  • Attend relevant first aid courses as required
