Grade 7 French Syllabus

The Grade 7 French course is a structured program. Students will learn about the culture of France and other French speaking countries. They will develop a sound knowledge of grammar and a wide range of vocabulary. Students will be assigned a pen pal and we will be going to Quebec in April. Students will present projects in front of the class. Participation, as well as homework, is an important part of the French course. There will be regular quizzing and testing done to prepare them for high school. We will always have time to play games and explore French songs, but these will be used as tools to enrich their vocabulary and knowledge of grammar.

Aims and Goals

  1. To develop the Speaking skills in order to enable the students to perform these particular activities in French:

Asking/presenting opinions

Agreeing/ Disagreeing

Likes/Dislikes

Describing people and things

Making and responding to requests

Asking for/exchanging information

Ordering food and beverages

Making suggestions/excuses/recommendations

Presenting in class with confidence and in the target language.

  1. To develop the Writing skills by building up a good range of vocabulary and a sound knowledge of French grammar. Students will write short paragraphs of 50-60 words on the themes studied.
  2. To develop the Listening skills by doing various listening exercises. Classes will be conducted as much as possible in French and students are encouraged to communicate in French. Students will be exposed to different styles of speaking and understanding different accents.
  3. To develop the Reading skills the students will read all sorts of literary work such as: short stories, poems, journals, articles, and cooking.
  4. Students will be immersed as much as possible in the target language.

  • 10% Class participation
  • 20% Homework
  • 20% Projects
  • 15% Quizzes
  • 25% Tests
  • 10% Oral

The students will have approximately 40 minutes of homework a week.

The Grade 7 students are expected to have 40 to 60 minutes of homework per week.

Le Grand Concours:March. 2016.

Assembly of awards: Thursday, June 9th, 2016

Quebec trip in April:Tuesday, April 12th – Friday, April 15th, 2016.

Character Education

Reinforcing the virtues of Prudence, Fortitude, Temperance and Justice which make up the 4 pillars upon which our school is built. In the French curriculum, this makes up an important part of the program. The students are made aware of the significance of these virtues through stories, fables, proverbs, projects, community service and discussions.
