About ADMAF
The Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation (ADMAF) seeks to nurture the arts, education, culture and creativity for the benefit of society and the advancement of Abu Dhabi’s cultural vision. Established in 1996 by H.E. Hoda Al Khamis-Kanoo, the Foundation is a not-for-profit organisation under the presidency and patronage of H.E. Sheikh NahayanMabarak Al Nahyan, UAE Minister of Culture, Youth & Community Development.
ADMAF delivers year-round arts education and community arts initiatives as well as special projects and the Abu Dhabi Festival. It brings together audiences of all ages and nationalities, and nurtures the creativity of the UAE in partnership with national & international institutions.
About The ADMAF Comic Arts Award
The ADMAF Comic Arts Award seeks to nurture and celebrate outstanding artistic expression in the comic arts among young UAE citizens. It is a competitive national platform that aims to elevate comic arts practice. This initiative is promoting the understanding and appreciation of the comic arts among UAE citizens. It aims to create awareness around the comic arts as a tool of creativity and cultural awareness.

Admission and selection criteria
- Entries are welcome from Emirati nationals aged between 18 and 35 years
- The applicant is requested to submit a completed application form together with a completed work in any of the following categories:
-Long Form: A work that is longer than 40 pages. Includes graphic novels, comic books, etc
-Short Form: A work that is shorter than 40 pages. Includes stand-alone work, zines, comic books and work that has been published in anthologies
-Special Format: Work that is design-driven and created with special attention to production values, including limited edition, small press, hand-made and artist’s books
-Digital Media: Work that is native to a digital format. Includes web comics, online comic strips, and other digitally driven works. Up to 20 images accepted per entry
-Comic Strip: A short-form work published in newspapers, magazines, books, online, etc. featuring four or more panels
-Single Image: Work featuring a self-contained narrative image with or without caption.Includes gag cartoons, political cartoons, single-panel cartoons, etc
-Moving Image: Motion graphics and animations (including gifs) intended to be shown on computer screens and tablets and created for apps, ebooks, digital versions of magazines, etc
- A jury of culture and comic art professionals selects the winner. They will be looking for the following attributes in the entries:
-quality of artwork
-concept development
-storytelling
-dialogue
-professionalism
-composition
-editing
-technique
-design & drawing / -creativity
-originality
-craftsmanship
-consistency
-legibility
-lettering if applicable
-packaging & presentation
-overall aesthetic
- The winner will receive a WACOM Cintiq® 13HD plus an international all-expenses-paid course
- The 4 shortlisted entries will receive a WACOM Intuos Pro
- The Award ceremony time & location TBD
- All accepted entries will be reproduced in a full colour catalogue.

- The winner and the shortlisted applicants will be notified by March 2016
Terms & Conditions
- The competition is open to Emirati nationals aged 18- 35
- The competition is free to enter
- The applicant may submit up to two entries
- Entries may be submitted in Arabic or English
- Only completed entries will be accepted
- The author/creator of the entry confirms that he/she has not been paid for their work
- Submissions must not have been published in a commercial magazine or sold in a commercially published volume in any country
- Applicants will not receive payment for their entries
- In entering the Award, applicant warrant that their entry is completely original under his/her own creation, all content therein is accurate and lawful, and does not contain material that is harmful, libelous or defamatory to, or material that may infringe the right of, any person or entity in any nature. The applicant will be obliged to indemnify any damage ADMAF may suffer as a result of any inconsistency to the foregoing
- Applicants will retain ownership of copyright for their entry
- After submission to the competition, ADMAF will automatically obtain the right to publish all shortlisted entries in print or online and the exclusive option to exercise the right to publish and/or exploit said submissions in independent books and on websites, as well as the exclusive option to all other secondary/subsidiary rights with respect to said entries
- ADMAF will determine whether or not to exercise any of its foregoing rights under its sole and absolute discretion
- There is one winner and the jury’s decision is final
- No correspondence shall be entered into concerning the selection
- The winner’s prize is as follows: One WACOM Cintiq 13HD; ADMAF agrees to pay the fee for one place on an international course. ADMAF will arrange and pay for one return economy flight, hotel accommodation in the city of the course, and a per diem for the duration of the course for one person in accordance with ADMAF standards
- The winner must claim the prize within 12 months of receipt
- The winner agrees to attend the Award ceremony
- The winner agrees to appear in all photography, film and media appearances associated with The ADMAF Comic Arts Award
- The winner agrees to join the ADMAF Alumni and contribute to the promotion of future editions of The ADMAF Comic Arts Award
- The applicant’s contact details will be added to the ADMAF database in order to receive future updates from the Foundation
